Spinach, egg noodles and a creamy hot dog mixture is topped with peas and crumbled bacon. What a casserole! This is a recipe I received in German class 24 years ago. It looks unusual, but it is very delicious. I don't know where the teacher found the recipe. Drop biscuits go well with this casserole.

Time 33m

Yield 1 pan

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 (1 lb) package hot dog
1 large white onion (chopped)
1/2 cup butter
2 (10 1/2 ounce) cans tomato soup
1 (12 ounce) bag egg noodles
1 1/2 cups milk
salt
pepper
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Melt butter in large pot.
  • Add onions and sauté for about 1 minute on medium heat.
  • Add chopped hot dogs and sauté for 1 minute.
  • Add 2 cans of tomato soup and of milk.
  • Add egg noodles and mix well.
  • Cover and let simmer until egg noodles are tender.
  • Add cheddar cheese and cover and let cheese melt.
  • Salt and pepper to taste.

Tips:

  • Choose the right hot dogs: Use all-beef hot dogs for the best flavor. Avoid hot dogs made with fillers or low-quality meats.
  • Slice the hot dogs thinly: This will help them cook evenly and distribute their flavor throughout the casserole.
  • Use a variety of noodles: You can use any type of noodles you like in this casserole, but a combination of egg noodles and macaroni is a classic choice.
  • Don't overcook the noodles: Cook the noodles according to the package directions, but be careful not to overcook them. Overcooked noodles will become mushy and ruin the texture of the casserole.
  • Use a creamy sauce: A creamy sauce is essential for a hot dog noodle casserole. You can use a simple white sauce made with milk, flour, and butter, or you can use a more flavorful sauce made with cheese, vegetables, or herbs.
  • Top the casserole with cheese: A layer of cheese on top of the casserole will help to brown it and give it a delicious crust.
  • Bake the casserole until it is bubbly and golden brown: This will ensure that the casserole is cooked through and that the cheese is melted and gooey.

Conclusion:

Hot dog noodle casserole is a quick and easy meal that is perfect for a busy weeknight. It is also a great way to use up leftover hot dogs. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can have a delicious and satisfying meal that the whole family will enjoy.
