The holidays can be stressful and hard to handle this Holiday Party Appetizers can be made 2 days before being served giving you time to take care of other things. This is easy and no cook if you use the jarred bacon bits. You can make all three with this one recipe or make all balls for gift giving with fabulous crackers.

2 tablespoons sour cream
1/3 cup red onion, minced
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
3 tablespoons horseradish
1 teaspoon garlic, finely minced
1 teaspoon liquid smoke (optional)
10 -15 drops hot pepper sauce
2 -8 ounces cream cheese, softened
8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
2 slices bacon, cooked till crisp and crumbled (2 strips Veggie Bacon Strips, cooked till crisp and crumbled ) or 2 tablespoons bacon bits (1 ounce 1/3 cup cooked)
1 -2 cup sliced almonds, toasted
almonds, slices
rosemary
bay leaf
dried parsley
red bell pepper, cut into little pieces for berries
fresh parsley
dill sprigs, for arms
carrot, cut for nose
capers, buttons and eyes
whipped cream cheese, softened

Steps:

  • Mix the first 7 ingredients.
  • Combine with cream cheese and fold in cheddar cheese and bacon forming into balls. Roll in nuts. Refrigerate a couple hours or over night.
  • Serve with crackers or vegetables.

  • Pine-cone - Shape into a pine cone and layer almonds slices up.
  • Wreath - Mound into a circle forming a wreath, by placing a drinking glass in center of serving platter. Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of cheese mixture around glass, just touching outer edge of glass, to form ring; smooth with spatula. Remove glass. Garnish with additional parsley by pressing dried parsley into the cheese. Arrange pieces of red bell peppers in sets of three for the berries and add fresh parsley for the bow.
  • Snowman - Make 2 balls one slightly smaller then the other. Wrap in plastic and chill till firm. Spread with softened whipped cream cheese using your hand to smooth out and fluff like snow. Decorate as you would a snow man. Dill or rosemary for arms, capers for button and eyes, carrot cut to make a nose and red pepper cut for mouth, scallions for the scarf or use your imagination. 1/2 lb extra-sharp white Cheddar, coarsely grated (2 cups)
1/2 lb cold sliced lean bacon, finely chopped
1 small onion, finely chopped (1/3 cup)
1 1/2 tablespoons drained bottled horseradish
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
14 very thin slices firm white sandwich bread

Steps:

  • Put oven rack in middle position and preheat oven to 375°F.
  • Stir together cheese, bacon, onion, horseradish, salt, and pepper in a bowl with a rubber spatula until blended well.
  • Spread about 1 1/2 tablespoons mixture evenly to edges of each slice of bread with a small offset spatula or butter knife. Arrange slices in 1 layer on a large baking sheet and freeze, covered with wax paper, until firm, about 15 minutes.
  • Trim crusts off bread and reserve for another use (see cooks' note, below), then cut each slice into 4 squares. Bake toasts on baking sheet until beginning to brown on edges, about 20 minutes.
