2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
3 tablespoons chopped fresh dill, divided
4 slices white sandwich bread, torn into pieces
8 oz mahi-mahi, cut into 8 strips
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1 8-ounce bag coleslaw mix
2 tablespoons olive oil

  • Preparation Grate enough lemon peel to measure 2 1/2 teaspoons. Halve lemons; squeeze enough juice to measure 1/4 cup. Mix peel, 2 tablespoons juice, mayonnaise, 1/4 cup green onion, relish, horseradish, and 2 tablespoons dill in bowl; set sauce aside. Grind bread to fine crumbs in processor. Add fish cakes; sauté until cooked through, about 2 minutes per side. Serve fish cakes with slaw and sauce.

Tips:

  • Choose the best cabbage: Use a firm head of green or red cabbage for the best texture and flavor.
  • Shred the cabbage finely: This will help the slaw absorb the dressing better.
  • Use fresh horseradish: Freshly grated horseradish has the best flavor, so avoid using prepared horseradish from a jar.
  • Make the dressing ahead of time: The dressing can be made up to 2 days in advance. This will allow the flavors to meld together.
  • Chill the slaw before serving: This will help the flavors develop and make the slaw more refreshing.
  • Serve with your favorite grilled or fried foods: Horseradish coleslaw is a great side dish for grilled chicken, pork, or fish, or with fried chicken or fish.

Conclusion:

Horseradish coleslaw is a classic side dish that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. With its tangy, creamy, and slightly spicy flavor, it is the perfect complement to any grilled or fried food. So next time you are looking for a delicious and refreshing side dish, give horseradish coleslaw a try!
