Tips:

  • Use room temperature ingredients: This will help the cake batter mix more evenly and produce a more tender crumb.
  • Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy: This will incorporate air into the batter, resulting in a lighter and more flavorful cake.
  • Gradually add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition: This will prevent the eggs from curdling.
  • Mix the dry ingredients together and then add them to the wet ingredients in three additions, alternating with milk: This will help to prevent the batter from becoming lumpy.
  • Do not overmix the batter: Overmixing can result in a tough, dense cake.
  • Bake the cake in a preheated oven: This will help to ensure that the cake rises evenly and bakes through properly.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting it: This will help to prevent the frosting from melting.
