Tips for Making Honey Whole Wheat Rolls
- To activate the yeast, stir it into warm water (105-115°F) with a small amount of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy. This step ensures that the yeast is active and will help the rolls rise properly. - Use a combination of whole wheat flour and all-purpose flour. This gives the rolls a good balance of flavor and texture. - Add honey to the dough to give it a subtle sweetness. Honey also helps to keep the rolls moist and soft. - Use a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook to knead the dough. This will help to develop the gluten in the flour and create a smooth, elastic dough. - Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. This step is important for the rolls to rise properly. - Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size. This step allows the yeast to ferment and produce gas, which will cause the rolls to rise. - Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place them in a greased 9x13 inch baking pan. - Let the rolls rise again for 30-45 minutes, or until they have doubled in size. This second rise helps to ensure that the rolls are light and fluffy. - Bake the rolls in a preheated oven at 375°F for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown. - Remove the rolls from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving. Conclusion
