HONEY CRUNCHIES

These are simple, wholesome, ingredients that combine to create an "old world" flavor that reminds me of Baklava.

Categories     Cookies

Number Of Ingredients 7

3 c quick cooking oats
1 c flaked coconut
1 c chopped pecans
1 c flour
1/2 c brown sugar, firmly packed
1 c butter
1/3 c honey

Steps:

  • 1. In a large bowl, mix the oats, coconut, pecans and flour.
  • 2. In a heavy sauce pan, heat the brown sugar, butter and honey until it reaches a boil.
  • 3. Pour the honey mixture over the dry ingredients and mix well.
  • 4. Drop the dough by rounded teaspoon into greased muffin tins so that the cookies retain their shape.
  • 5. Bake in a preheated 350 oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • 6. Cool in the pan.

Tips:

  • Be precise with measurements: Baking is a science, so it's important to measure your ingredients accurately. A kitchen scale is the best way to ensure precise measurements, but if you don't have one, use measuring cups that have been leveled off with a knife.
  • Use room temperature ingredients: This will help your ingredients mix together more easily and evenly. If you're using butter or cream cheese, let it soften at room temperature for about 30 minutes before using.
  • Don't overmix your batter: Overmixing can make your cookies tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Chill your dough: Chilling the dough for at least 30 minutes will help the cookies hold their shape better. If you're short on time, you can chill the dough for 15 minutes, but the cookies may not hold their shape as well.
  • Bake your cookies at the right temperature: The temperature of your oven will affect the texture of your cookies. For crispy cookies, bake them at a high temperature (375°F or higher). For chewy cookies, bake them at a lower temperature (350°F or lower).
  • Let your cookies cool completely before storing them: This will help prevent the cookies from sticking together. Store your cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the freezer for up to 2 months.

Conclusion:

Honey crunchies are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. The combination of sweet, crispy, and chewy textures makes these cookies irresistible.
