10-MINUTE HONEY BARBECUE GRILLED SHRIMP

10-Minute Honey Barbecue Grilled Shrimp image

Fast, EASY, healthy, and the perfect way to enjoy barbecue shrimp!! Tender, juicy, and full of such great FLAVOR from the barbecue sauce and honey

Provided by Averie Sunshine

Categories     Seafood

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 9

1/3 cup your favorite barbecue sauce
1/3 cup honey
2 to 4 cloves garlic, finely minced or pressed
1 to 3 tablespoons sriracha or chili garlic sauce, optional and to taste if you prefer some spiciness
1 to 1.25 pounds fresh shrimp, cleaned and deveined (I use U20 shrimp, with tails still on; you can use larger shrimp or shrimp without tails on if desired)
2 tablespoons olive oil
salt and freshly ground black pepper, for seasoning
fresh lemon wedges, for serving
fresh cilantro or parsley, optional for garnishing

Steps:

  • To a medium bowl, add the barbecue sauce, honey, garlic, optional sriracha or chili garlic sauce, and stir to combine. Divide mixture into two bowls (one for brushing on the shrimp while grilling and the other as a dipping sauce when serving); set bowls aside.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill to medium-high heat (or indoor grill pan).
  • Thread about 5 to 6 shrimp onto one metal or wooden grilling skewer (soak wooden skewers in water for about 30 minutes prior to using); repeat the threading with all remaining shrimp.
  • Brush shrimp liberally with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
  • Grill the shrimp for about 2 minutes on the first side.
  • Flip and brush the just-grilled side with the barbecue sauce mixture from one of the bowls.
  • Grill for about 2 minutes on the second side, and brush the first side with the barbecue sauce mixture. As necessary, continue to brush the shrimp with the sauce and flip every 30 to 60 seconds or until done. Note - Shrimp cook very quickly, especially on a hot grill. Keep an eye on them and do not overcook or they will become tough and rubbery. There is a difference between a little charring on the tails from the grill versus overcooking them.
  • Drizzle with lemon juice, optionally garnish with fresh cilantro or parsley, and serve immediately with the reserved dipping sauce. Shrimp are best warm and fresh.

Provided by Emily Walker

Categories     Dinner     Main Course

Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 11

6 chicken breasts
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 teaspoon minced garlic
3/4 cup ketchup
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup brown sugar (firmly packed )
1/4 cup honey
3 tablespoons Worcetershire sauce
1 1/2 tablespoons Yellow mustard
2 teaspoons soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon chili powder

Steps:

  • In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, warm the vegetable oil. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  • Add the remaining sauce ingredients and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat and simmer about 15 minutes. Set aside. Pour 1/2 of the sauce in a small bowl for basting the chicken.
  • I like to pound the chicken a little before I grill it so it cooks evenly. Grill the chicken on medium high heat, you want to cook it 7 to 10 minutes on each side. It tastes best if you only turn it once.
  • Baste generously with the small bowl of sauce every 3 or 4 minutes. Serve with the remaining sauce on the side for dipping.

A delicious grilled recipe that makes the meat very tender. The part that takes the longest is allowing the meat to marinate!

Time 20m

1 lb chicken or 1 lb shrimp

Steps:

  • Mix first four ingredients together

  • Grill or broil until meat is no longer pink (sorry, I am horrible with cooking times!).

GRILLED SHRIMP WITH HONEY-GINGER BARBECUE SAUCE

Grilled Shrimp With Honey-Ginger Barbecue Sauce image

Of all the ways to prepare shrimp, the grill delivers the best flavor. Although unadorned "shrimp on the barbie" are great, an easily assembled gingery barbecue sauce makes them that much better. You can save time by buying already shelled and deveined shrimp, but our recipe developer, Alexis Touchet, who grew up in shrimp country in southwest Louisiana, thinks shell-on shrimp are better quality. Depending on where you live and what's in your market, you may not have much choice. Freshness trumps all, so don't hesitate to use your nose in deciding which shrimp to buy.

Yield Makes 8 servings

Sauce:
Honey-Ginger Barbecue Sauce
Shrimp:
4 pounds jumbo (21-25 per pound) or extra-large (26-30 per pound) shrimp in shell, peeled, leaving tail and adjoining shell segment intact, and deveined (See Cooks' Notes)
4 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 teaspoon salt
Special Equipment
18 to 24 (12-inch) wooden skewers (depending on size of shrimp used), soaked in water for 30 minutes

Steps:

  • For the Shrimp:
  • If necessary, pat shrimp dry, then thread about 6 shrimp (through top and tail, leaving shrimp curled), onto each skewer, without leaving space between shrimp.
  • Prepare grill for direct-heat cooking over medium-hot charcoal (medium-high for gas); see Grilling Procedure.
  • Meanwhile, brush shrimp with vegetable oil and sprinkle evenly with salt.
  • Lightly oil grill rack. Grill shrimp, covered only if using a gas grill, turning over once, 2 minutes. Brush shrimp with some sauce from the saucepan, then turn. Brush shrimp with additional sauce then grill until just cooked through, 1 to 2 minutes. Serve with reserved sauce.

Tips:

  • For a smoky flavor, grill the chicken or shrimp over medium heat for 10-12 minutes per side, or until cooked through.
  • To make the honey barbecue sauce, combine honey, brown sugar, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper in a saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, and cook for 10 minutes, or until thickened.
  • Marinate the chicken or shrimp in the honey barbecue sauce for at least 30 minutes before grilling. This will help the flavors to penetrate the meat and make it more flavorful.
  • Serve the honey barbecued chicken or shrimp with your favorite sides, such as rice, mashed potatoes, or grilled vegetables.

Conclusion:

Honey barbecued chicken or shrimp is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a summer cookout. The sweet and smoky flavors of the honey barbecue sauce are sure to please everyone at your table. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a meal that is both flavorful and satisfying. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy weeknight dinner, give honey barbecued chicken or shrimp a try. You won't be disappointed!
