TANGY HONEY GLAZED HAM

Tangy Honey Glazed Ham image

I came up with the glaze for this ham using ingredients on hand and it's the best I've ever tasted. If you have any glaze left over, you can add it to the pan drippings with a little flour or cornstarch and make a nice sauce to accompany the meat. Use the bone and ham trimmings to make soup afterwards.

BROWN SUGAR-ORANGE GLAZED HAM

Brown Sugar-Orange Glazed Ham image

Ham is such a great option for holiday meals. It feeds a ton of people and is so easy to make. Plus, you'll likely have leftovers that are perfect for adding to quiche, ham biscuits, and so much more. And don't forget to save that ham bone for soup!

Provided by Kardea Brown

Categories     main-dish

Time 3h55m

Yield 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 6

One 8- to 10-pound bone-in fully cooked ham
1/4 cup whole cloves
1 cup honey
1 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
3/4 cup fresh orange juice
1/4 cup (4 tablespoons) unsalted butter

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
  • Place the ham in a roasting pan, fat side up. Score the ham in diamond shapes with a sharp knife. Insert the cloves in the center of each diamond. Bake until a meat thermometer registers 140 degrees F when inserted in the thickest portion (avoiding bone), 18 to 20 minutes per pound.
  • Meanwhile, make the glaze. Combine the honey, brown sugar, orange juice and butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer and cook until the sugar dissolves, about 2 minutes.
  • Remove the ham from the oven. Increase the oven temperature to 375 degrees F.
  • Remove about 2 tablespoons pan drippings from the roasting pan and add to the glaze. Whisk to combine. Pour the glaze over the ham. Return the ham to the oven and continue baking, basting with the pan juices frequently, until the ham is browned, about 20 more minutes. Slice the ham and serve with the pan juices, if desired.

Tips:

  • To ensure the ham is fully cooked, use a meat thermometer. The internal temperature should reach 140°F (60°C) for fresh ham and 165°F (74°C) for a fully cooked ham.
  • If you don't have a meat thermometer, you can check if the ham is cooked by inserting a fork into the thickest part. If the juices run clear, the ham is done.
  • To make the glaze, use a good quality honey. This will give the glaze a rich, flavorful taste.
  • The glaze can be made ahead of time. Store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
  • When glazing the ham, make sure to coat it evenly. This will ensure that the ham is evenly browned and flavorful.
  • If you don't have orange juice, you can use pineapple juice or apple juice instead.
  • If you don't have cloves, you can use allspice or cinnamon instead.
  • Serve the ham with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a salad.

Conclusion:

Honey and orange ham glaze is a delicious and easy way to add flavor to your ham. It's perfect for a special occasion dinner or a simple weeknight meal. With its sweet and tangy flavor, this glaze is sure to please everyone at the table. So next time you're looking for a new way to cook ham, give this recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
