I didn't see this one posted.. this meatloaf is AWEsome, i have made it too many times to count, do make sure you don't skip the basting process. I also use the extra sauce( skimmed of fat) and put it over some cooked egg noodles or rice.. YUMM. This also makes a great cold sandwich the next day. On a side note i did saute the onions a bit before adding them, just my personal preference

Time 1h

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1 cup fresh breadcrumb
1 onion, diced
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
3 tablespoons vinegar
3 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup water, to thin sauce if necessary

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Mix together the beef, bread crumbs, onion, egg, salt, pepper, and 1/2 cup of the tomato sauce. Form this mixture into a loaf and place it in a shallow pan. Stir together the remaining tomato sauce, vinegar, sugar, mustard, Worcestershire and the water (if too thick). Pour this sauce over the meatloaf. Bake for 1 hour, basting every 15 minutes with the pan juices.

Tips:

  • To ensure the meatloaf remains moist and juicy, utilize a combination of ground beef and ground pork. Ground turkey may serve as a healthier alternative.
  • Enhance the flavor of the meatloaf by incorporating sautéed vegetables, such as onion, celery, and carrots. Bacon bits can also be added for an extra savory touch.
  • Moisturize the meatloaf by adding beaten eggs, milk, and bread crumbs to the mixture. Season generously with salt, pepper, and garlic powder, along with Worcestershire sauce for added depth of flavor.
  • Transfer the meatloaf mixture into a loaf pan and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 1 hour or until a meat thermometer inserted into the center reads 160°F (70°C).
  • Allow the meatloaf to rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the loaf, resulting in a more flavorful and moist experience.

Conclusion:

Paula Deen's homestyle meatloaf is a classic comfort dish that satisfies with every bite. By following these simple tips and tricks, you can elevate your meatloaf to the next level, impressing family and friends alike.
