HOMEMADE SWEET AND SOUR MIX (FOR COCKTAILS)
Summer is almost here and I'm looking forward to some fun summery drinks. I'm not getting to the grocery store as often as I used to because of the Covid virus, so decided to try some homemade versions of sweet and sour mix. I tried 3-4 different recipes and although they all use the same ingredients, I found that there was a...

Steps:
- 1. Make a simple syrup with the sugar and water. Simmer them together over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved.
- 2. Let the mixture come to room temperature.
- 3. Add the lemon and lime juices.
- 4. Pour into a container (I used a cleaned Prego jar).
- 5. Store in a covered container in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks or freeze for about a month (or maybe longer. Mine was only frozen for about a month before I used it all).
- 6. NOTES: You can use bottled lemon and lime juices instead of fresh......but the taste is fresher and better with fresh.
- 7. VARIATION: Margarita mix usually leaves out the lemon juice for a lime based sour mix. So you can make this without the lemon juice as a substitute for margarita mix. Based on personal preference........you may want to add more lime juice to get a stronger flavor.
HOMEMADE SKINNY SWEET AND SOUR MIX (MARGARITAS)
Steps:
- Combine; mix well; enjoy.
Tips:
- Use fresh lemons and limes for the best flavor. Organic fruits are preferable, as they have fewer pesticides and chemicals.
- If you don't have fresh citrus fruits, you can use bottled lemon and lime juice. However, fresh citrus fruits will give your sour mix a much better flavor.
- Be sure to taste your sour mix before using it in cocktails. It should be tart and tangy, but not too sour.
- You can adjust the sweetness of your sour mix by adding more or less simple syrup. If you like your cocktails on the sweeter side, add more simple syrup. If you prefer them tart, add less.
- Store your sour mix in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Be sure to shake it well before using.
Conclusion:
Homemade sour mix is a great way to add a fresh, tangy flavor to your cocktails. It's easy to make and can be customized to your own taste. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a delicious sour mix that will take your cocktails to the next level. So next time you're making a margarita, daiquiri, or any other citrus-based cocktail, be sure to try using homemade sour mix. You won't be disappointed!
