Steps:
- 1. Brew a pot of strong, good quality coffee to get that rich Kahlua flavor. it should be strong because a weak coffee won't transport the flavors into the final product. Once brewed, prepare to use the coffee immediately.
- 2. Once the pot is done, transfer it over to a large bowl. Add 4 cups of sugar and 1 Tablespoon of cocoa powder to the fresh, hot coffee and stir until dissolved.
- 3. Let the coffee mixture cool to room temperature. Once the sugar and cocoa has dissolved and the coffee has cooled, add the vodka stirring to combine. Pour the mixture into bottles.
- 4. Cut the vanilla bean into 3rds and drop one piece into each bottle. Put cap on. Your Kahlua is made. At this point you may add a cinnamon stick or orange peel if you like. This will give it a more dynamic flavor.
- 5. Store in a cool, dry place for 2-3 weeks. The vanilla needs this much time to infuse and the flavors need to settle into the coffee to give it that rich, liqueur flavor.
- 6. Once the time is up, strain it beforehand and then rebottle. Label and store in basement, cellar, or inside a closed box.

HOMEMADE KAHLUA
I was a beautician for years and one of my customers was a school principal. Steps:
- 1. Bring the water to a boil and add the sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved.
- 2. Add 2 oz of instant coffee, stir well and let cool.
- 3. When the pan is cool to touch then add the vodka... all of it to the sugar, water, and coffee mixture.
- 4. Split one vanilla bean in half length wise and add to the mixture.
- 5. Bottle the Kahlua up and let it sit for a week. I leave the vanilla bean in the bottle, and it doesn't go bad. You can add some Vanilla Flavored International coffee creamer to it and a splash of vodka and it makes a wonderful white russian.
Tips:
- Use high-quality coffee beans: The quality of your coffee beans will greatly impact the flavor of your Kahlua. Choose dark roast beans for a bolder flavor, or medium roast beans for a smoother flavor.
- Roast your own coffee beans: If you have the time and equipment, roasting your own coffee beans will give you the freshest and most flavorful coffee for your Kahlua.
- Grind your coffee beans coarsely: Coarsely ground coffee beans will help to prevent the coffee from becoming too bitter in your Kahlua.
- Use fresh vanilla beans: Fresh vanilla beans will give your Kahlua a more intense vanilla flavor. If you can't find fresh vanilla beans, you can use vanilla extract, but the flavor will be less pronounced.
- Let your Kahlua age: Aging your Kahlua for at least two weeks will help to mellow the flavors and make it smoother. You can age your Kahlua for up to six months for a more intense flavor.
- Store your Kahlua in a cool, dark place: Kahlua is best stored in a cool, dark place, such as a pantry or cabinet. Avoid storing it in direct sunlight or in a warm place, as this can cause the flavor to deteriorate.
Conclusion:
Kahlua is a delicious and versatile liqueur that can be enjoyed in many different ways. It's perfect for sipping on its own, or for using in cocktails and other mixed drinks. With its rich coffee and vanilla flavors, Kahlua is a surefire hit with everyone who tries it. So next time you're looking for a special treat, be sure to give Kahlua a try. You won't be disappointed!
