AMARETTO ALMOND LIQUEUR

I have not tried this out, but I found it on a copycat recipe site and it is supposed to be comparable to Di Saronno brand liqueur.

Categories     Beverages

Time 40m

Yield 3 cups

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup water
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 cups 80-proof vodka
2 tablespoons almond extract
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Combine the water and the sugars in a saucepan.
  • Heat until boiling over medium heat and until all the sugar is dissolved.
  • Remove from the heat and let mixture cool for about 15 minutes.
  • Add the vodka, almond extract and vanilla extract.
  • Store in a sealed bottle.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality almonds. The quality of your almonds will greatly impact the flavor of your amaretto. Look for fresh, plump almonds that are free of blemishes.
  • Toast your almonds. Toasting the almonds will bring out their flavor and give your amaretto a richer flavor.
  • Use a good quality vodka. The vodka you use will also impact the flavor of your amaretto. Choose a vodka that is smooth and has a neutral flavor.
  • Let your amaretto age. Aging your amaretto will allow the flavors to meld and develop. The longer you age it, the better it will taste.

Conclusion:

Homemade amaretto is a delicious and versatile liqueur that can be enjoyed on its own or used in a variety of cocktails and desserts. It's a great way to use up leftover almonds, and it makes a thoughtful gift for friends and family. With a little time and effort, you can easily make your own amaretto at home.
