Tips:
- Choose the right mushrooms. Large, firm mushrooms with intact stems are best for stuffing. Portobello, cremini, and shiitake mushrooms are all good choices.
- Remove the stems and gills. Use a spoon to gently scrape out the gills from the underside of the mushroom caps. The gills can be bitter and tough, so removing them will improve the flavor and texture of the stuffing.
- Season the mushrooms. Before stuffing, season the mushroom caps with salt, pepper, and any other desired seasonings. This will help to enhance the flavor of the mushrooms.
- Use a variety of fillings. There are endless possibilities for fillings, so get creative! Some popular options include sausage, bread crumbs, vegetables, cheese, and nuts.
- Don't overstuff the mushrooms. The mushrooms should be filled, but not so tightly that they burst open during cooking.
- Bake the mushrooms until they are tender. The cooking time will vary depending on the size of the mushrooms and the type of filling. Generally, mushrooms should be baked for 15-20 minutes, or until they are tender and the filling is cooked through.
