Steps:
- Other possible additions: 1 clove garlic (finely minced) sauteed with the tomatoes, sliced mushrooms, or steamed broccoli florets.
- Bring large pot of water to boil; cook pasta until al dente; drain well.
- In a skillet over medium heat melt the butter and saute the tomatoes for 4 minutes.
- Add the basil and parsley, stir, then add remaining ingredients and the hot noodles and toss to combine.
- Garnish with additions suggested above in step 1.
Tips:
- Use freshly grated cheese. Pre-shredded cheese contains additives that can prevent it from melting smoothly. Try using a combination of cheeses for a more flavorful mac and cheese. A good rule of thumb is to use about 2 cups of cheese for every 1 pound of pasta.
- Make a roux. A roux is a mixture of butter and flour that helps to thicken the cheese sauce. This will prevent your mac and cheese from being too runny.
- Cook the pasta al dente. Al dente means "to the tooth" in Italian. Pasta that is cooked al dente is still slightly firm to the bite. This will help to prevent the pasta from becoming mushy in the cheese sauce.
- Use a flavorful cheese. The type of cheese you use will have a big impact on the flavor of your mac and cheese. Try using a sharp cheddar, Gruyère, or Parmesan cheese.
- Add mix-ins. If you like, you can add mix-ins to your mac and cheese, such as cooked bacon, diced ham, or chopped broccoli.
Conclusion:
Mac and cheese is a classic comfort food that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. With so many different variations, there's sure to be a recipe that everyone will love. Whether you like your mac and cheese simple or loaded with mix-ins, be sure to follow these tips for the best results.
