Tips:

  • Choose ripe, flavorful tomatoes: Look for tomatoes that are deep red or orange in color, and feel heavy for their size. Avoid tomatoes that are green or have blemishes.
  • Slice the tomatoes evenly: Use a sharp knife to slice the tomatoes into even slices. This will help them cook evenly and look more appealing.
  • Use fresh mozzarella cheese: Fresh mozzarella cheese is softer and creamier than regular mozzarella cheese, and it has a milder flavor that won't overpower the tomatoes.
  • Tear the basil leaves: Tearing the basil leaves instead of chopping them will release their essential oils and give the salad a more intense flavor.
  • Drizzle with a good quality olive oil: Use a high-quality extra virgin olive oil to enhance the flavor of the salad. You can also add a splash of balsamic vinegar for a bit of acidity.

Conclusion:

Heirloom tomato salad with mozzarella and basil is a classic summer dish that is both delicious and easy to make. By following these tips, you can make the best heirloom tomato salad possible. So next time you have a craving for a refreshing and flavorful salad, give this recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
