Yield 8 people

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 cup brown sugar
1/4 pound butter (1 cube) - (softened for 1 hour)
1-cup whole wheat flour
5 pounds apples (granny smith or pippin)
Cinnamon

Steps:

  • 1) To make the crumble topping, mix together butter, flour and brown sugar. You can use a fork - or your fingers. 2) Wash, peel and slice apples (not too thick). Can slice in Cuisinart. 3) Spread apples in an 8x11 rectangular Pyrex. Make sure they are piled pretty high because they shrink. Sprinkle with cinnamon. 4) Crumble the topping over the apples. 5) Bake at 325 for 1 hour or until apples are nice and soft. If not cooking fast enough raise to 350. 6) Serve warm or at room temperature. If it's too hot, you can't taste the apples.

Tips:

  • Choose the right apples. For a classic apple crisp, use a variety of apples that hold their shape well when cooked, such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Braeburn. If you prefer a softer, sweeter crisp, use softer apples, such as Fuji or Gala.
  • Don't over-peel the apples. Leave a little bit of the peel on the apples for added flavor and texture.
  • Use a sharp knife to slice the apples. This will help prevent the apples from bruising.
  • Don't overcrowd the baking dish. Spread the apples out in an even layer so that they cook evenly.
  • Use a combination of oats, flour, and butter for the topping. This will give the crisp a crispy, golden brown topping.
  • Bake the crisp until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender. This usually takes about 35-45 minutes.
  • Let the crisp cool for a few minutes before serving. This will help the topping set and the apples hold their shape.

Conclusion:

Apple crisp is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its simple ingredients and classic flavor, apple crisp is sure to be a hit with everyone at your table. So next time you're looking for a sweet treat, give this healthy apple crisp recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
