HEALTHIER FRENCH FRIES AND BUDGET FRIENDLY

Healthier French Fries and Budget Friendly image

We love french fries but nor the fat or the salt. DH bought me a french fry cutter that I love as I use it for fruits and veggies besides FF. As we wanted fries for dinner t go with the super duper burgers (turkey) I made a batch of taters for the oven that rival any seasoned ones we have had, yet hugely better as they are no salt and minimal grease. Oven fires.

Time 45m

Yield 30 french fries, 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 3

2 yukon gold potatoes
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons salt

Steps:

  • Slice the pototoes into thin rectangles that look like french fries.
  • Toss with olive oil.
  • Put in baking pan and lightly salt.
  • Bake at 400 for 30 minutes.
  • About halfway through baking time flip the french fries over to crisp on both sides. With about five minutes left I turn the broiler on to crisp up the fries more.
  • Once done I like to put in a bowl with paper towels to drain some of the oil.
  • Enjoy.

Tips:

  • Choose the right potatoes: Russet potatoes are the best choice for French fries because they have a high starch content, which makes them crispy. If you don't have Russet potatoes, you can use Yukon Gold or all-purpose potatoes.
  • Cut the potatoes evenly: This will ensure that they cook evenly. Cut them into 1/2-inch thick strips.
  • Soak the potatoes in water: This will help to remove the starch from the potatoes, which will make them crispier. Soak them for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight.
  • Dry the potatoes thoroughly: This is important to prevent the fries from sticking together. Pat them dry with a paper towel before frying.
  • Use a high-quality oil: Canola oil or vegetable oil are good choices. Avoid using olive oil, as it has a low smoke point and can burn easily.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: This will prevent the fries from cooking evenly. Fry them in batches if necessary.
  • Season the fries: Season them with salt, pepper, and any other desired spices. You can also add grated Parmesan cheese or chopped parsley.
  • Serve the fries immediately: They are best when served hot and crispy.

Conclusion:

These healthier French fries are a delicious and budget-friendly alternative to traditional French fries. They are made with simple ingredients and can be easily customized to your liking. Serve them with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy!
