These savory ribs are delicious and so tender. They can be made ahead and marinated, then put on the grill to brown when you're ready for dinner. Great time saver for when company is coming. They can also be baked in the oven.

Time 1h15m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 lbs meaty pork spareribs
1/4 cup ketchup
1/3 cup unsweetened pineapple juice
1/2 cup teriyaki sauce
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground ginger or 1 tablespoon minced fresh gingerroot
2 large garlic cloves, minced

Steps:

  • Cut ribs into serving pieces.
  • Parboil the ribs in water to cover for at least 30 minutes. (This helps to get rid of some of the fat and also helps to make the ribs tender.) Drain and let cool somewhat.
  • Mix the remaining ingredients together. Put ribs in a marinade pan or large zip-loc freezer bag and pour marinade over ribs. Refrigerate. Turn ribs occasionally and continue to marinate at least 2 hours or overnight.
  • Grill until heated through and nicely browned or bake in 350 degree oven until browned and tender. Brush with marinade while cooking if desired.
  • Serve on platter with pineapple slices and mandarin orange segments.

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 lb lean spare ribs, cut in 2"pieces
3 Tbsp flour
1 tsp salt
3 Tbsp soy sauce
3 Tbsp salad oil
2/3 c sugar
2/3 c wine vinegar
1/8 c water
1/2 c pineapple juice
1 tsp grated ginger root ( or 1/2t. dry fresh is much better)
2 c fresh pineapple and papaya chunks

Steps:

  • 1. Cut spareribs into 2-inch pieces. Mix flour, salt, and soy sauce together and coat ribs. Allow to stand 10 minutes. Heat oil in skillet or wok and brown ribs on all sides. Drain off excess fat and add sugar, vinegar, water, juice and ginger. Cover and simmer until meat is tender, about 45 minutes. Stir in fruit and simmer 5 minutes longer. Serve garnished with minced paresly and sesame seeds.
  • 2. Serve with white rice.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ribs. Look for spare ribs or baby back ribs that are meaty and have good marbling.
  • Prepare the ribs properly. Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs and cut them into individual portions.
  • Use a flavorful marinade. The marinade will help to tenderize the ribs and infuse them with flavor.
  • Cook the ribs slowly and low. This will help to ensure that they are cooked through and fall off the bone.
  • Baste the ribs regularly. This will help to keep them moist and prevent them from drying out.
  • Serve the ribs with your favorite sides. Some popular options include rice, potato salad, and corn on the cob.
