Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 pounds skin-on, bone-in chicken thighs (about 4 pieces)
1/2 cup shoyu
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
3 garlic cloves, smashed
1 2-inch knob of ginger, peeled and sliced
2 stalks green onions (optional)
1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)

Steps:

  • Over medium-high heat, brown chicken (skin-side down) in a saucepan. Brown for 5 minutes, until the skin is a deep golden color.
  • Mix together in a bowl: shoyu, sugar, water, and rice vinegar. Pour the liquid mixture over the chicken in the sauce pan.
  • Add in the smashed garlic and sliced ginger. Bring mixture to a boil, then turn back down to low heat. Put on a lid and let the chicken simmer (skin side up) for 10 minutes.
  • Lift the lid. Turn the chicken skin-side down, and simmer for another 10 minutes. Remove chicken onto a plate. Reduce the sauce over medium heat until thick (like the thickness of honey).
  • Serve the chicken over a big bowl of rice. Finish with chopped green onions, a sprinkle of sesame seeds, and drizzle on the sauce. It's onolicious ^_^

Number Of Ingredients 19

⅓ cup raw honey
3 tablespoons tomato paste
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon Sriracha sauce
1 teaspoon sesame oil
½ cup cold water
1 tablespoon cornstarch
½ teaspoon salt
1 ¼ teaspoons salt, divided
¾ teaspoon garlic powder, divided
1 pound skinless, boneless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 egg
¾ cup all-purpose flour
½ cup cold water
½ cup cornstarch
2 tablespoons avocado oil
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
peanut oil for frying
½ tablespoon toasted sesame seeds

Steps:

  • Mix honey, tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, Sriracha sauce, and sesame oil together in a medium bowl.
  • Combine cold water, cornstarch, and 1/2 teaspoon salt in a bowl; mix well. Add to honey sauce mixture and mix well. Set aside until needed.
  • Sprinkle 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder over chicken.

Tips:

  • Use fresh ginger and garlic: Fresh ginger and garlic add a lot of flavor to this dish, so it's worth using them if you can. If you don't have fresh ginger and garlic on hand, you can use ground ginger and garlic powder, but the flavor won't be as good.
  • Don't overcook the chicken: The chicken should be cooked through, but not overcooked. Overcooked chicken will be tough and dry. To prevent overcooking, cook the chicken over medium heat and cook it until it reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Use a good quality sesame oil: Sesame oil is a key ingredient in this dish, so it's important to use a good quality oil. Look for an oil that is dark in color and has a nutty flavor.
  • Serve with rice or noodles: This dish is traditionally served with rice or noodles. You can use any type of rice or noodles that you like, but white rice or jasmine rice are popular choices.

Conclusion:

Hawaiian Sesame Chicken is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a quick weeknight meal. The chicken is tender and flavorful, and the sauce is sweet, savory, and slightly tangy. This dish is sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
