Steps:
- Combine 1/2 cup milk and cornstarch in a small bowl. Whisk or stir with a fork until smooth and all lumps have been incorporated.
- Combine remaining milk with sugar in a medium saucepan over low heat. Slowly whisk in the cornstarch mixture. Cook, whisking as needed to prevent lumps from forming, until mixture begins to thicken, 8 to 10 minutes. Add chocolate chips and salt. Continue stirring until chips are completely melted and pudding is smooth and thickened, about 7 minutes more.
- Pour pudding into 1 large bowl or 6 individual bowls. Place plastic wrap directly on top of the pudding to prevent a skin from forming; smooth it gently against the surface. Refrigerate for at least 3 to 4 hours before serving.

HASTY PUDDING
Hasty pudding is a pudding or porridge grain cooked in milk or water; it's closest American cousin is the famous grits of the South. The North American version, also known as corn mush or Indian mush, in its simplest form is corn meal cooked slowly in water until it thickens. It may be eaten hot, or left to cool and solidify. Slices of the cold pudding may then be fried. Hasty pudding was once a popular American food because of its low cost, long shelf life, and versatility, and was eaten with both sweet and savory accompaniments, such as maple syrup, molasses, or salted meat. Hasty pudding, itself, is memorialized in a verse of the early American song Yankee Doodle: Fath'r and I went down to camp Along with Captain Goodin', And there we saw the men and boys As thick as hasty puddin' The directions in this recipe call for long slow cooking (thus making the name a misnomer), but these days the slow-cooker might be a good alternative way to go. From the New England chapter of the United States Regional Cookbook, Culinary Arts Institute of Chicago, 1947.

Tips:
- Use good quality chocolate for the best flavor. A semisweet or dark chocolate with a cocoa content of at least 60% is a good choice.
- If you don't have cornstarch, you can use all-purpose flour instead. However, the pudding may not be as thick.
- To make the pudding even richer, use heavy cream instead of milk.
- If you like your pudding with a little bit of a kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or chili powder.
- Serve the pudding warm or cold, topped with whipped cream, ice cream, or fresh berries.
Conclusion:
This hasty chocolate pudding is a quick and easy dessert that is perfect for any occasion. It is rich, creamy, and chocolatey, and it can be made with just a few simple ingredients. Whether you serve it warm or cold, this pudding is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. So next time you're in a hurry, give this recipe a try.
