My Mom always made this for family birthdays. The original recipe was on a can of Hershey's Cocoa Powder. I still have the original taped to an index card. The flour amount is different from the recipe I found already posted here.

Tips:

- The secret to a moist cake is to use melted butter instead of oil. Butter provides a richer flavor and helps to keep the cake moist. - Use high-quality cocoa powder for the best flavor. Look for a cocoa powder that is labeled "unsweetened" and has a deep, rich color. - Measure your ingredients accurately. This is especially important for the cocoa powder, baking soda, and baking powder. - Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor. This includes the eggs, butter, and milk. - Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing can result in a tough, dry cake. Just mix until the ingredients are well combined. - Bake the cake at the correct temperature and for the correct amount of time. A toothpick inserted into the center of the cake should come out with just a few moist crumbs attached. - Let the cake cool completely before frosting it. This will help to prevent the frosting from melting.

Conclusion:

This classic chocolate cake is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its moist texture, rich flavor, and decadent frosting, this cake is sure to be a hit. So next time you're looking for a special dessert, give this hand-me-down chocolate cake a try. You won't be disappointed!
