Steps:
- Whisk sugar and vinegar in medium bowl until sugar dissolves. Whisk in mustards. Season sauce to taste with salt and pepper. Cover and refrigerate sauce 1 day. (Can be prepared 3 days ahead. Keep refrigerated.) Serve ham with sauce.
Tips:
- Choose the right ham: Opt for a bone-in ham for a more flavorful and tender result.
- Score the ham: Use a sharp knife to score the ham's surface in a crisscross pattern. This helps the mustard sauce penetrate the ham and adds extra flavor.
- Use a good quality mustard: The mustard is the star of the sauce, so make sure to use a high-quality variety. Dijon mustard is a classic choice, but you can also use a whole grain or spicy brown mustard.
- Simmer the sauce: Bring the mustard sauce to a simmer and let it cook for a few minutes to thicken and develop its flavor.
- Baste the ham: Baste the ham with the mustard sauce every 20-30 minutes while it's baking. This helps keep the ham moist and infuses it with even more flavor.
- Let the ham rest: Once the ham is cooked through, let it rest for 15-20 minutes before slicing and serving. This allows the juices to redistribute and makes the ham easier to carve.
Conclusion:
This ham with mustard sauce is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that's perfect for any special occasion. With its tender meat and flavorful sauce, it's sure to be a hit with everyone at your table. So next time you're looking for a special meal to serve, give this ham with mustard sauce a try. You won't be disappointed!
