HAM LOAF

"I COPIED this recipe exactly the way Grandma has written it in her worn cookbook. The only difference today is that I can't get home-smoked ham like those Grandpa used to cure in his old-fashioned smokehouse. But that never matters to hungry folks at the table-Grandma's recipe is a winner every time!"

It's great for company because you can mix the loaf in advance, then simply pour on the sauce before putting it in the oven...it's the sauce that makes it so good!

GRILLED HAM AND CHEESE PULL-APART SANDWICH LOAF

Grilled Ham and Cheese Pull-Apart Sandwich Loaf image

Assembled in minutes, this sandwich is ready to be toasted on the grill or the campfire.

Provided by By Betty Crocker Kitchens

Categories     Lunch

Time 40m

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 loaf Italian bread (10 to 12 inches)
3 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
1 tablespoon spicy brown or country-style Dijon mustard
6 slices (1 oz each) Swiss cheese
3/4 lb thinly sliced fully cooked ham

Steps:

  • Heat gas or charcoal grill. Spray 25x18-inch sheet of heavy-duty foil with cooking spray. Without cutting all the way through, cut loaf of bread into 12 (3/4-inch) slices, cutting to within 1/4 inch of bottom.
  • Stir together butter and mustard. Spread every other slice of bread with slightly less than 2 teaspoons mustard mixture, creating 6 sandwiches. Fold each slice of cheese in half diagonally; tuck each into sandwich. Divide ham evenly among sandwiches, tucking in to fit. Place loaf on center of foil. Seal edges, making tight 1/2-inch fold; fold again, allowing space for heat circulation and expansion.
  • Place foil-wrapped loaf on grill over medium heat. Cover grill; cook 20 to 25 minutes or until cheese is melted and loaf is hot, turning loaf frequently. To serve, open packet carefully to allow steam to escape. Remove foil from loaf; pull apart sandwiches.

MOIST AND EASY HAM LOAF WITH CHERRY SAUCE

Moist and Easy Ham Loaf With Cherry Sauce image

This recipe is from the Quick Cooking recipe book. I really like to make this with my ham leftovers.

Provided by southern chef in lo

Categories     Poultry

Time 1h5m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 egg, lightly beaten
1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup dry breadcrumbs
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 lb fully cooked ground ham
1/2 lb ground turkey
1/2 cup cherry preserves
1 tablespoon cider vinegar
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves

Steps:

  • In a bowl combine the first 5 ingredients. Crumble ham and turkey over mixture and mix together well.
  • Press into greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan. Bake uncovered at 375°F for 50 to 55 minutes or until meat thermometer reads 160°F.
  • In a saucepan combine sauce ingredients; cook and stir over medium heat for 5 minutes or until heated through. Serve with ham loaf.

Tips:

  • Choose the right meat: Use a combination of ground pork and ground beef for a moist and flavorful ham loaf. You can also use all ground pork or all ground beef, but the combination of the two meats is ideal.
  • Season the meat mixture well: Use a variety of seasonings, such as salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika, to flavor the meat mixture. You can also add other herbs and spices, such as sage, thyme, or rosemary, to taste.
  • Don't overmix the meat mixture: Overmixing the meat mixture will make the ham loaf tough. Mix the meat just until it is combined.
  • Form the meat mixture into a loaf: Shape the meat mixture into a loaf shape and place it in a baking pan. You can also use a loaf pan if you prefer.
  • Bake the ham loaf at a low temperature: Bake the ham loaf at a low temperature (350 degrees Fahrenheit) for about 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Let the ham loaf rest before slicing: Let the ham loaf rest for about 10 minutes before slicing. This will help the juices redistribute throughout the loaf.

Conclusion:
