HONEY MUSTARD GLAZED HAM

Honey Mustard Glazed Ham image

Provided by Valerie Bertinelli

Categories     main-dish

Time 2h10m

Yield 8 to 10 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

One 9-pound bone-in spiral-sliced ham
1 cup honey
1/3 cup brown sugar
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons whole-grain mustard
2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh thyme

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
  • Place the ham in a small roasting pan, cut-side down, and pour 1/2 cup water into the bottom of the pan. Cover the pan tightly with foil. Bake until the ham is heated through, about 1 1/2 hours.
  • Meanwhile, combine the honey, brown sugar, butter, Dijon mustard, whole-grain mustard and thyme in a small saucepan. Cook over medium-low heat until the sugar has dissolved, about 2 minutes.
  • Increase the oven temperature to 375 degrees F. While the ham is still hot, remove the foil and carefully pour off the water from the roasting pan; it is fine if a little water remains. Brush about half of the glaze over the ham. Return to the oven, uncovered, for 5 minutes, until the ham is golden brown and beginning to glaze. Brush with the remaining glaze and bake for another 7 to 10 minutes, until the ham is well-browned and glazy; be careful not to let the glaze burn. Serve warm.

HAM LOAF

"I COPIED this recipe exactly the way Grandma has written it in her worn cookbook. The only difference today is that I can't get home-smoked ham like those Grandpa used to cure in his old-fashioned smokehouse. But that never matters to hungry folks at the table-Grandma's recipe is a winner every time!"

HAM LOAF WITH MARMALADE-MUSTARD GLAZE

Ham Loaf With Marmalade-Mustard Glaze image

I just purchase one whole block of smoked ham at the deli and chop it in my processor, or you can use leftover cooked ham from a previous meal, I suggest to not add in any salt until the very end as the cooked ham already has a high salt content, or add it on at the table. This glaze recipe is also good on your cooked hams.

1 1/2 lbs ground pork
1 lb smoked ham, finely chopped (I just purchase one whole block from the deli and then chop it up)
1 cup crushed saltine crackers (might have to use a little more)
1 cup full-fat milk

  • Place in oven and bake for 30 minutes.

1 pound finely chopped smoked ham (about 3 1/2 cups)
1 cup finely crushed saltine crackers

  • Mix ground pork, ham, crushed crackers, milk, eggs, pepper, salt and cooled onion mixture in large bowl; combine thoroughly. Transfer pork mixture to shallow baking pan. Shape into 9x4x2 1/2-inch loaf. Using long knife, make shallow crisscross (diamond) pattern in top of loaf. Bake loaf 30 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, blend orange marmalade, Dijon mustard and brown sugar in small bowl for glaze.
  • Drizzle 1/3 cup glaze over loaf; bake 15 minutes. Drizzle another 1/3 cup glaze over loaf; bake 15 minutes. Drizzle remaining glaze over loaf and bake until thermometer inserted into center of loaf registers 165°F, about 20 minutes longer. Transfer loaf to platter; let stand 10 minutes. Pour pan juices into small bowl; whisk to blend.
  • Cut loaf crosswise into 3/4-inch-thick slices. Serve with pan juices.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ham. Use a fully cooked ham for this recipe, such as a spiral-cut ham or a boneless ham. This will ensure that the ham is cooked through and safe to eat.
  • Grind the ham finely. This will help the ham loaf to hold together better. You can use a food processor or a meat grinder to do this.
  • Use a variety of seasonings. The seasonings in this recipe are just a suggestion. Feel free to use your own favorite seasonings or adjust the amounts to taste.
  • Don't overmix the meatloaf. Overmixing can make the meatloaf tough. Mix the ingredients just until they are combined.
  • Bake the meatloaf in a loaf pan. This will help the meatloaf to keep its shape while it is baking.
  • Glaze the meatloaf before baking. The glaze will help to keep the meatloaf moist and flavorful. You can use a variety of glazes, such as a mustard glaze, a ketchup glaze, or a brown sugar glaze.
  • Let the meatloaf rest before slicing. This will help the meatloaf to hold together better when you slice it.

Conclusion:

Ham loaf is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. It is also a great way to use up leftover ham. With a few simple tips, you can make a ham loaf that is moist, flavorful, and sure to please everyone at the table.
