HAM LOAF

"I COPIED this recipe exactly the way Grandma has written it in her worn cookbook. The only difference today is that I can't get home-smoked ham like those Grandpa used to cure in his old-fashioned smokehouse. But that never matters to hungry folks at the table-Grandma's recipe is a winner every time!"

Tips:

  • Choose the right breadcrumb: Use fresh, soft breadcrumbs. Do not use panko breadcrumbs or croutons, as they will not absorb the moisture from the meat mixture and will result in a dry loaf.
  • Do not overmix the meat mixture: Overmixing will result in a tough loaf. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Be patient when baking the loaf: Do not open the oven door during the first 30 minutes of baking. This will cause the loaf to fall.
  • Let the loaf cool completely before slicing: This will help the loaf to hold its shape and prevent it from crumbling.

Conclusion:

Ham loaf is a delicious and versatile dish that can be served as an appetizer, main course, or sandwich. It is also a great way to use up leftover ham. With a little planning and preparation, you can easily make a ham loaf that your family and friends will love. With its simple ingredients, ease of preparation, and timeless flavor, ham loaf is a dish that will continue to be enjoyed for generations to come.
