2 pkg (10 oz each) frozen puff pastry shells ** see note
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp chicken bouillon granules or Better Than Boullion (this is what I used)
1/2 cup hot water
1-1/2 cups milk (I used skim)
3 slices process American cheese
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp prepared mustard
2 cups cubed fully cooked ham
1/2 cup frozen peas, thawed, optional(I left this out)
1 can (2-1/4 oz) sliced ripe olives, drained (Next time I'd do mushrooms instead)
2 Tbsp diced pimientos
1 Tbsp minced fresh parsley

Steps:

  • Bake pastry shells according to package directions. Meanwhile, in a large saucepan, melt butter; stir in flour until smooth. Dissolve bouillon in the 1/2 cup hot water.
  • Slowly add milk and bouillon/water mixture to the saucepan. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened.
  • Reduce heat; add the cheese, Worcestershire sauce and mustard. Stir until cheese is melted.
  • Add the ham, peas if desired, olives (mushrooms), pimientos and parsley; heat through. Serve in pastry shells. Yield: 6 servings.

1/4 cup flour
2 cups milk

This recipe is for those whom have a difficult time making Ham and Beans, Dedicated to one of JAP'S own Diane. These are so very Easy. On a Budget as Many are today, Ham and Beans with Rice, or Cornbread, or a cold slaw, and you have a full course meal.

SOAK OVER NIGHT .. . OR . . BRING TO BOIL,
1 lb dry pinto beans or any bean of your choice, navy or great northern, or lima beans
PLACE IN CROCK POT;
5 cups water
1 Lge onion, chopped
3 good sized ham hocks or 8 oz chunks of ham
1 tsp liquid smoke flavoring (optional)
1 tsp ea. salt and pepper to taste
3/4 c diced carrots & celery (optional)

Steps:

  • 1. Sort and go thru beans for any dirt or rocks that sometimes is in a bag of Beans. Rinse Dry Beans, to remove any dirt. Soak over Night, then Drain. OR if in a hurry, Bring to Boil boil 10 min. Turn Heat Off. Let set 20 min. then Drain.
  • 2. Add the beans into your Crock-pot. add: water, onion, ham or Ham Hocks,Liquid Smoke, Salt and Pepper to taste.
  • 3. Cook on high about 3 -4 hrs, turn down to Low for additional time till beans are tender and meat falls off the bone. Check every 3 hrs for any needed water, if needed add; HOT water, 1 cup at a time.
  • 4. Optional Flavors You can add one of the following 1)Bacon in place of Ham. 2)3 cloves of Minced garlic, 2 Jalapino peppers seeded and chopped, with 1 Tbs Chili powder & 1/2 tsp cumin, . . this is similar to Chili beans. 3) Celery 4) you can replace the Jalapeno for 2 Tbs of Chopped Bell Peppers. 5) Refried Beans, Remove the meat, Mash beans with a Potato Masher, till smooth. Note: "you can control the Heat" as to "how hot" you want your beans with the Jalapenos by the amount of Jalapenos you add. These are Just samples of a few things you can do with your Beans. Serve over Rice, or with Buttered Hot Cornbred, or Cornbread Muffins drizzled with Honey, and you have a full budget meal. BEAN SOUP: Follow above recipe, add Celery, and if Too thick add more Water for the Consistency of soup, and bring to a boil, Taste Test season and enjoy.
