SLOW COOKER GREEN BEANS, HAM AND POTATOES
I make this dish often; I have never really measured the ingredients, but can give you a reasonable approximation. Note: Freeze leftover cooking liquid, and then add to bean soup, ham or cabbage dishes, or use to cook dumplings in. It's delicious!

CRAZY-SIMPLE COTTAGE HAM, POTATOES, AND GREEN BEANS
Cottage ham is one of my favorite dishes to eat because it's rich in flavor and incredibly simple to make. Requiring only five ingredients and five minutes of prep time, this dish could quickly become a go-to meal in your household. If you can't wait the hour it takes to cook, drop it in a slow cooker in the morning, and it'll be ready when you get home.

HAM, POTATOES, AND GREEN BEANS
A farm-food classic, but low in fat and perfectly suited to today's lighter diets. Not a soup, not a stew, but a one-pot meal that stays good on those busy days when everyone has to eat on a different schedule.

HAM, GREEN BEANS, AND POTATOES (SLOW COOKER)
This is my first original recipe, but I welcome criticism! (although my boyfriend had thirds and then passed out on the couch). I knew I wanted to cook ham shanks in the crock pot, but I couldn't find any recipes that were quite what I was looking for. The ingredients I listed here will fill a 3 quart pot, but I imagine quantities are flexible.

HAM, GREEN BEANS, & POTATOES IN THE CROCK POT
Here's the simple crock pot combination I've come up with based on friends' advice and some other recipes I've read. I like to serve it with corn bread and sliced fresh tomatoes. NOTE: In the time since I originally posted this recipe, I've tweaked it a bit more when I make it at home. I found that the addition of some chicken broth really enhances the flavor! However, I'm leaving it here as originally posted.

COUNTRY STYLE GREEN BEANS, HAM & NEW POTATOES

Steps:
- 1. In a large soup pot add all ingredients except potatoes - heat over medium heat until it comes to a boil. You want to have enough liquid to just barely cover the beans. Reduce heat and simmer another 2 - 3 hours.
- 2. Check for seasoning and adjust as needed. If it tastes a little salty it's OK, the potatoes will soak some of that up. The beans should be very tender and beginning to fall apart.
- 3. Add the new potatoes and push them down into the beans so that they're covered with liquid. If more liquid is needed add more chicken stock or water.
- 4. Raise heat to medium and bring liquid to a boil - cover and boil for 20 minutes or until potatoes are done. Taste again and adjust seasoning as needed. Enjoy!
- 5. NOTES: The beer and the bacon grease make all the difference in the taste so don't leave that out.
SOUTHERN GREEN BEANS, HAM & POTATOES
I love homemade ham & green beans with potatoes, served with a skillet of cornbread and sweet tea! For this recipe, I took two "soul-food" recipes I had and combined them to come up with this one. It's just the way I like it. You can adjust the amounts of ingredients to your own taste. If I use ham hocks, I usually only add one or two slices of bacon for added flavor, just because I like bacon flavor. But if I don't have ham hocks, I use 4- 6 slices of bacon.

Steps:
- Dice the ham, green beans, onion and potatoes. Add ingredients into your Crock Pot with 3 cups of water and season with salt & pepper (according to taste). You can also use Steak Spice in yours. Cook for 6 hours on Low. Tip: To get a crispier dish, we'd suggest sautéeing everything in a saute pan once it's done cooking in the crockpot.
Tips:
- Choose the Right Ham: Opt for a fully cooked ham for convenience. Bone-in or boneless hams work well, but a bone-in ham will yield more flavorful results.
- Enhance the Ham's Flavor: To elevate the ham's taste, consider glazing it with a mixture of brown sugar, honey, and spices before baking. This glaze will caramelize and add a delicious crust to the ham.
- Cook the Ham Properly: Preheat your oven to the recommended temperature specified in the recipe. Place the ham in a baking dish and cover it with foil to prevent it from drying out. Bake the ham according to the recipe's instructions, checking its internal temperature to ensure it reaches a safe 140°F (60°C).
- Prepare the Green Beans: Trim the ends of the green beans and wash them thoroughly. You can leave them whole or cut them into smaller pieces, depending on your preference. Fresh green beans are ideal, but frozen or canned green beans can also be used.
- Cook the Potatoes: Peel and cut the potatoes into evenly sized pieces. Boil them in salted water until they are tender but still hold their shape. You can also roast or fry the potatoes if desired.
- Assemble and Serve: Arrange the ham, green beans, and potatoes on a serving platter. Drizzle any remaining glaze or juices from the ham over the vegetables. Garnish with fresh herbs like parsley or thyme for added flavor and visual appeal. Serve the dish hot and enjoy!
Conclusion:
This classic combination of ham, green beans, and potatoes is a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed for various occasions. With its simple ingredients and straightforward preparation, it's a perfect meal for busy weeknights or special gatherings. The tender ham, flavorful vegetables, and rich gravy come together to create a hearty and satisfying dish that will surely be a crowd-pleaser. Whether you're a seasoned cook or a beginner in the kitchen, this recipe is an excellent choice for a delectable and comforting meal.
