Time 2h

Yield 10 to 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 8

3 cups peach nectar
1 (1-inch) piece ginger, smashed
1/2 lemon, juiced
4 cloves garlic, smashed
1/4 cup Dijon mustard
1 cup brown sugar
1 (14-pound) precooked ham
3 whole peaches

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • In a medium saucepan, simmer together peach nectar, ginger, lemon juice, and garlic cloves. Simmer for 20 minutes.
  • Strain out ginger and garlic.
  • Prepare ham for glaze. Rub Dijon mustard and then brown sugar on the ham.
  • Pour glaze on bottom of pan and throw in sliced peaches for additional peach flavor.
  • Place ham in oven for 1 1/2 hours. Every 10 to 20 minutes glaze ham with the glaze from bottom of pan to keep moist.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ham: For this recipe, it's best to use a smoked ham that is not pre-cooked. This will allow you to control the cooking process and ensure that the ham is cooked to your liking.
  • Score the ham: Scoring the ham helps the glaze penetrate the meat and creates a more flavorful crust. Use a sharp knife to score the ham in a criss-cross pattern, about 1/4 inch deep.
  • Make the glaze ahead of time: The glaze can be made up to a day in advance. This will allow the flavors to meld and develop.
  • Baste the ham frequently: Basting the ham with the glaze during the cooking process helps to keep it moist and flavorful. Baste the ham every 20-30 minutes.
  • Cook the ham to the right temperature: The ham is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Use a meat thermometer to check the temperature of the ham.
  • Let the ham rest: Before slicing and serving the ham, let it rest for 10-15 minutes. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the meat.

Conclusion:

Georgia ham with peach garnish is a delicious and impressive dish that is perfect for a special occasion. The ham is moist and flavorful, and the peach garnish adds a touch of sweetness and elegance. This recipe is sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
