HAWAIIAN-STYLE QUESADILLAS

Hawaiian-Style Quesadillas image

I made up this ham and pineapple quesadilla recipe when I worked at a cafe and was craving Hawaiian-style pizza. We were serving Mexican food that day so I had to work with the ingredients on hand. I have made this repeatedly since. My favorite quesadilla. I like to mix sour cream and salsa in a small bowl and dip it.

english/american take on a mexican dish

Time 15m

Yield Serves 2

Steps:

  • lay 1 tortilla in frying pan. heat must still be off.
  • tear ham up, and grate cheddar cheese. other hams maybe used. after tearing ham and grating cheese mix together, with a drizzle of olive oil if using. olive oil just holds the filling together but works without.
  • then sprinkle filling evenly on the tortilla making sure ham and cheese are evenly shared all over the tortilla.
  • lay next tortilla on top and press down lightly.
  • turn hob onto low heat and allow cheese to melt so tortillas are glued together.
  • when golden brown, turn over and allow other side to cook to same colour.
  • then cut into 4 seperate pieces, serve with guacamole and salad to finish off this british/ american take on an authentic mexican dish.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of cheeses. This will give your quesadillas a more complex flavor. Some good options include cheddar, Monterey Jack, and pepper Jack. You can also use a blend of cheeses.
  • Don't overload the quesadillas. Too much filling will make them difficult to fold and seal. Stick to a thin layer of filling, and don't be afraid to press down on the quesadillas with a spatula to help them seal.
  • Cook the quesadillas over medium heat. This will help them cook evenly without burning the tortillas. If you cook them over too high heat, the tortillas will burn before the filling has a chance to cook through.

Conclusion:

Ham, apple, and cheese quesadillas are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for a quick lunch or dinner. They are also a great way to use up leftover ham and cheese. With a few simple tips, you can make perfect quesadillas every time. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give ham, apple, and cheese quesadillas a try. You won't be disappointed!
