Steps:
- 1. GET READY: Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees. Spray a 10 inch glass pie dish with Pam.
- 2. LAYER THE PIE: Scatter 2 teaspoons of garlic evenly on the bottom of a Pam sprayed pie dish. Put half of the sliced potatoes on top of the garlic, overlapping the slices. Add half of the onion slices. Add salt and pepper (go easy on the pepper) Add 1/2 of the ham. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of the cheddar cheese and the pepper jack cheese over the onions evenly. Repeat the layer of garlic, potatoes, onions, salt, and pepper, and ham. Add the cream evenly over the top, and then add the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese of choice, plus, the 1/4 cup of parmesan cheese. Cover the pie plate with foil. Bake 35 minutes, then remove foil and bake 35 minutes more until golden brown and the pie is set.
- 3. TO SERVE: Lightly tent the pie for a few minutes and then cut into wedges to serve. Enjoy!
- 4. Note: I also have a Tater and Onion Pie side dish that is posted.
Tips:
- Use a sharp knife to thinly slice the onions. This will help them cook evenly and quickly.
- If you don't have a food processor, you can grate the ham by hand. Just be sure to grate it finely so that it blends well with the other ingredients.
- Don't overcook the ham and onion mixture. It should be cooked through, but not dry.
- Use a store-bought pie crust to save time. Or, if you're feeling ambitious, you can make your own pie crust from scratch.
- Be sure to preheat your oven before baking the pie. This will help the crust cook evenly.
- Let the pie cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. This will help the filling set and make it easier to slice.
Conclusion:
This ham and onion pie is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any occasion. It's also a great way to use up leftover ham. So next time you have some leftover ham, be sure to give this recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
