Tips:

  • Choose the right potatoes: Look for potatoes that are firm and smooth, with no blemishes or bruises. Russet potatoes are a good choice for baking, as they have a fluffy texture and hold their shape well.
  • Wash the potatoes thoroughly: Scrub the potatoes with a vegetable brush to remove any dirt or debris. This will help to prevent the potatoes from becoming gritty.
  • Poke the potatoes with a fork: This will help the potatoes to cook more evenly. Use a fork to poke several holes all over the surface of each potato.
  • Brush the potatoes with oil: Brushing the potatoes with oil will help them to brown and crisp. You can use olive oil, vegetable oil, or melted butter.
  • Season the potatoes: Season the potatoes with salt, pepper, and any other desired spices. You can also add herbs, such as rosemary or thyme, for extra flavor.
  • Bake the potatoes at a high temperature: Baking the potatoes at a high temperature will help them to cook quickly and evenly. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit before baking the potatoes.
  • Flip the potatoes halfway through cooking: Flipping the potatoes halfway through cooking will help them to brown evenly. Use a spatula to carefully flip the potatoes over after about 30 minutes of baking.
  • Cook the potatoes until they are tender: The potatoes are done when they are tender when pierced with a fork. The cooking time will vary depending on the size of the potatoes, but it will typically take about 45-60 minutes.
  • Let the potatoes cool slightly before serving: Let the potatoes cool slightly before serving, this will make them easier to handle. You can also use this time to add any desired toppings, such as butter, sour cream, or cheese.
