JALAPENO JELLY

Jalapeno Jelly image

a classic, but deliciously spicy and sweet jalapeno jelly

Provided by admin

Categories     Appetizer

Number Of Ingredients 5

12 whole fresh jalapeno peppers (stemmed and seeded)
2 medium-sized green bell peppers
1 cup Bragg's apple cider vinegar
5 cups white sugar
2 pouches Certo liquid pectin

Steps:

  • Finely chop peppers in a food processor.
  • Combine the chopped peppers, vinegar and sugar in a 6 quart or larger pot and bring it to a slow boil. Bring it down to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes.
  • Remove from the heat and stir in the pectin. Return to the heat and boil rapidly for 1 minute.
  • Remove from the heat and skim off any foam with a clean metal spoon.
  • Quickly ladle into hot, clean jars (boil jars in water for 10 minutes to sterilize prior). I used half pint jars. Leave 1/4" headspace at the tops of the jars.
  • Wipe the rims and threads of the jars. Place canning lids on all the jars and tighten well. Process them in boiling water for 5 minutes. To do this, bring a very large pot of water to a boil that will fit the jars in a single layer. You can do them in batches if you have a smaller pot. Remove jars from the water and allow to cool. The lids will make an audible "pop" if processed correctly.

HABANERO PEPPER JELLY

Blazing hot pepper jelly is addictive if you can handle it! The grated carrot adds nice color and texture. Pepper hotness and people's tolerance varies, so you'll have to experiment to find the right number to add. If chopping habaneros by hand, rubber gloves are recommended since the habanero peppers will burn the skin.

Leave a 2 inch space between the jars. Pour in more boiling water if necessary until the water level is at least 1 inch above the tops of the jars. Bring the water to a full boil, cover the pot, and process for 5 minutes.
  • Remove the jars from the stockpot and place onto a cloth-covered or wood surface, several inches apart, until cool. Once cool, press the top of each lid with a finger, ensuring that the seal is tight (lid does not move up or down at all).

Tips:

  • Choose the right peppers: Use a combination of habanero and jalapeno peppers for a perfect balance of heat and flavor. If you want a milder jelly, use fewer habaneros or remove the seeds and ribs. For a spicier jelly, use more habaneros or leave the seeds and ribs in.
  • Use fresh peppers: Fresh peppers will give your jelly the best flavor. If you can't find fresh peppers, you can use frozen or dried peppers, but the flavor will not be as good.
  • Wear gloves when handling peppers: Habaneros and jalapenos can irritate your skin, so it's important to wear gloves when you're handling them.
  • Cook the jelly over low heat: This will help to prevent the jelly from scorching.
  • Let the jelly cool completely before storing it: This will help to prevent the jelly from becoming too runny.

Conclusion:

Habanero jalapeno pepper jelly is a delicious and versatile condiment that can be used in a variety of ways. It's perfect for adding a kick of heat to sandwiches, burgers, and tacos. It can also be used as a dipping sauce for chicken, fish, or vegetables. If you're looking for a homemade gift, this jelly is sure to please even the most discerning palate.
