IRISH GUINNESS BROWN BREAD
Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
- In a large bowl, combine the oats, whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the beer, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla. Make a well in the dry ingredients and pour the wet ingredients into the well. With your fingers, stir the batter from the middle of the bowl to the outside, until it's well mixed. It will look more like cake batter than bread dough.
- Brush a 9 x 5 x 2 1/2-inch loaf pan with melted butter. Pour the batter into the pan and sprinkle the top with oats. Put the bread in the oven, immediately turn the temperature down to 400 degrees, and bake for 45 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean. Turn the bread out onto a baking rack and allow to cool completely. Slice and serve with salted butter.

Steps:
- 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Prepare a large loaf pan (or 2 smaller ones) by spraying lightly with oil (like Pam Spray or Baker's Joy)
- 2. REMEMBER TO DOUBLE SIFT THE FLOUR - either the self-rising or AP flour. NOTE: measure after sifting
- 3. Mix the dry ingredients, 1/4 cup melted butter, and beer together. Pour into a prepared loaf pan
- 4. Pour the remaining 1/4 cup of melted butter over mixture; and then bake 1 hour.
- 5. Remove to a wire rack and let cool for a few minutes. Turn the loaf out and slice at least 1" pieces. Serve warm, with or without spreading on softened butter or honey. Enjoy!
Tips:
- Use a good quality stout. Guinness is the classic choice, but you can also use other dark beers like Newcastle Brown Ale or Murphy's Irish Stout.
- Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing can make the bread tough.
- Bake the bread until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the bread cool completely before slicing and serving.
- Serve the bread with butter, jam, or your favorite spread.
Conclusion:
Guinness quick bread is a delicious and easy-to-make bread that is perfect for any occasion. It is moist and flavorful, with a slightly sweet taste. The bread is also very versatile and can be served with a variety of toppings. Whether you are looking for a quick snack or a hearty breakfast, Guinness quick bread is a great option.
