GRILLED TURKEY, BRIE, APPLE BUTTER SANDWICHES

GRILLED TURKEY, BRIE, APPLE BUTTER SANDWICHES image

Categories     Sandwich     turkey     Fry     Picnic     Quick & Easy     Lunch

Yield 4 sandwich

Number Of Ingredients 6

8 slices artisan bread, about 1/2-inch thick
5 to 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
1/4 cup store-bought apple butter
1 pound sliced fresh roasted deli turkey
1/2 pound brie cheese, thickly sliced
1 bunch arugula, stems trimmed

Steps:

  • Spread each of 4 slices of bread with 1/2 tablespoon of butter. Now spread each with 1 tablespoon of the apple butter. Top each slice of bread with a couple of slices of turkey, cover that with 2 to 3 slices of brie (enough to cover the turkey), and finally, arrange 2 to 3 arugula leaves on top. Spread the remaining 4 bread slices with 1/2 tablespoon of butter and lay them, buttered sides down, over the cheese; press gently. Heat a large cast-iron or other heavy skillet over medium-low heat. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon butter and let it melt to evenly coat the bottom of the pan. Add as many sandwiches as will comfortably fit (either 2 or 4) and cook 2 to 3 minutes until the bread is golden brown and the cheese begins to melt. Flip and cook 2 to 3 more minutes to brown the bread. (Add another tablespoon of butter and cook the remaining sandwiches, if you need to.) Cut the sandwiches in half and serve hot.

Tips:

  • Selecting the Right Cut of Turkey: Choose turkey breast or thigh slices that are at least 1/2 inch thick for a juicy and flavorful sandwich.
  • Marinating the Turkey: Marinating the turkey slices in a flavorful mixture of olive oil, herbs, and spices enhances their taste. You can use a simple marinade or experiment with different flavor combinations.
  • Grilling the Turkey: Grill the turkey slices over medium heat until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). This ensures that the turkey is cooked thoroughly while remaining tender and moist.
  • Choosing the Right Bread: Select a sturdy bread that can hold up to the grilled turkey and toppings. Ciabatta rolls, sourdough bread, or hearty whole-wheat bread are all good options.
  • Building the Sandwich: Layer the grilled turkey slices on the toasted bread along with your favorite toppings such as lettuce, tomato, cheese, bacon, or avocado. Add a drizzle of dressing or sauce for extra flavor.

Conclusion:

Grilled turkey sandwiches are a versatile and delicious meal option that can be enjoyed for lunch, dinner, or even as a quick and satisfying snack. With endless variations of toppings and sauces, you can create a unique and flavorful sandwich that suits your taste preferences. Whether you prefer a classic BLT or a more adventurous sandwich with grilled pineapple and teriyaki sauce, the grilled turkey sandwich is a culinary canvas that invites creativity and exploration. So fire up your grill, gather your ingredients, and indulge in the savory delights of a perfectly grilled turkey sandwich.
