GRILLED HAVARTI-AVOCADO SANDWICHES W/FRUIT SPREAD

From Delicious Living.

Categories     Other Appetizers

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 tablespoon(s) butter, softened
8 slice(s) french bread, 1/4" thick slices
2-4 tablespoon(s) fruit spread or preserves (apricot, strawberry, raspberry, fig, peach, etc. your choice)
4 ounce(s) havarti cheese, sliced (can substitute gruyere, muenster or gouda)
1 large avocado, sliced

Steps:

  • Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Butter four bread slices on one side only. Place slices, butter-side down, on a clean surface. Spread 1/2-1 tablespoon fruit spread or preserves of choice in a thin layer on each slice. Top with cheese and layer with avocado slices. Cover with remaining bread; butter tops.
  • Place two sandwiches in the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes, until bread is golden brown and cheese has begun to melt. Flip sandwiches over, pressing down slightly with a spatula. Continue cooking until golden brown. Serve immediately.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe avocados. Ripe avocados should be slightly soft to the touch and have a dark green or black skin. Avoid avocados that are too hard or have brown spots.
  • Use a good quality bread. A sturdy bread like sourdough or whole wheat will hold up well to the grilled cheese sandwich. You can also use a softer bread like white bread or brioche, but it may not be as crispy.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan. When grilling the sandwiches, don't overcrowd the pan. This will prevent the sandwiches from cooking evenly.
  • Cook the sandwiches over medium heat. Medium heat will help the sandwiches cook evenly without burning the bread.
  • Flip the sandwiches once. Once the bottom of the sandwiches is golden brown, flip them over and cook the other side until it is also golden brown.
  • Serve the sandwiches immediately. Grilled cheese sandwiches are best served immediately, while the cheese is still melted and gooey.

Conclusion:

Grilled Havarti and Avocado Sandwiches are a delicious and easy-to-make meal. They're perfect for lunch, dinner, or a snack. With a few simple ingredients, you can create a sandwich that is both flavorful and satisfying.
