8 slices jewish-style rye bread
Dijon mustard
1 lb corned beef, thinly sliced
8 ounces Fontina cheese, thinly sliced
1/2 sweet onion, thinly sliced
4 tablespoons butter, divided

Steps:

  • Place 4 bread slices on work surface.
  • Spread mustard on 1 side of each. Divide corned beef among bread slices. Top with cheese and onion. Cover with remaining 4 bread slices, pressing slightly to adhere.

Turn sandwiches over and cook until golden on bottom and cheese melts, about 3 minutes. Transfer sandwiches to plates, cut in half and serve.

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality corned beef: Opt for corned beef that is well-marbled and has a good amount of fat. This will ensure that the sandwiches are juicy and flavorful.
  • Cook the corned beef properly: Make sure to cook the corned beef until it is tender and slightly pink in the center. Overcooking will make the meat tough and dry.
  • Use good quality bread: The bread you use for the sandwiches is also important. Choose a bread that is sturdy enough to hold up to the fillings, but not too thick or dense. Ciabatta, sourdough, and French bread are all good options.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with the fillings: In addition to the corned beef and fontina cheese, you can also add other fillings to the sandwiches, such as sauerkraut, horseradish sauce, or roasted red peppers.
  • Serve the sandwiches hot: Grilled corned beef and fontina sandwiches are best served hot, so make sure to cook them just before you're ready to eat them.

Conclusion:

Grilled corned beef and fontina sandwiches are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for any occasion.
