SAVORY GREEN BEANS

Savory Green Beans image

My boyfriend cooked this for a dinner a couple of week ago. It was so tasty and tangy, that I could not believe that it was green beans (1 of my least favorite vegetables) Maybe it is because I like that lemony-tangy flavor, but I think it is a great and EASY way to give something extra to vegetables. Oh, he told me he got the recipe from the Stop & Shop website. I hope you all like it as much as I do. Try to exchange the broth and the lemon juice with instant lemon flavor iced tea (prepared as if you were going to drink it) for an extra flavor kick.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh, tender green beans. Look for beans that are bright green in color and snap when you bend them. Avoid beans that are limp or have brown spots.
  • Trim the green beans. Cut off the ends of the beans, where the stem was attached. You can also remove the strings from the beans, if desired. To do this, use a vegetable peeler to pull the strings down the length of the bean.
  • Blanch the green beans. This step is essential for preserving the green color of the beans and preventing them from becoming overcooked. To blanch the beans, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the green beans and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until they are bright green and tender. Immediately remove the beans from the boiling water and plunge them into a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process.
  • Sauté the green beans. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the olive oil and the minced garlic. Cook for 1-2 minutes, or until the garlic is fragrant. Add the blanched green beans and sauté for 5-7 minutes, or until they are heated through.
  • Add the savory. Stir in the chopped savory leaves and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until the leaves are wilted. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve immediately. Green beans with savory is a delicious side dish that can be served with a variety of main courses.

Conclusion:

Green beans with savory is a simple but delicious dish that is perfect for a quick and easy weeknight meal. The beans are blanched to preserve their color and then sautéed with garlic and savory leaves. The result is a flavorful and nutritious side dish that is sure to please everyone at the table.
