Time 5m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 (15 ounce) can green beans
1 teaspoon butter or 1 teaspoon margarine
1 tablespoon parmesan cheese, canned is fine
1 pinch thyme (optional)

Steps:

  • Heat entire contents of the canned green beans. Drain.
  • Place butter in the bottom of a serving bowl and add DRAINED green beans, stirring gently until butter is melted.
  • Sprinkle with parmesan (and thyme if using)and serve.
  • NOTE: This would work equally well on fresh or frozen green beans.

Tips:

  • Rinse and drain the green beans thoroughly: This will remove the excess salt and starch, which can make the beans taste metallic or bland.
  • Add a little acid: A squeeze of lemon juice, a splash of vinegar, or a dollop of yogurt can help to brighten up the flavor of the green beans and make them taste more fresh.
  • Sauté the green beans: Sautéing the green beans in a little bit of oil or butter will help to caramelize them and give them a slightly smoky flavor.
  • Add some herbs and spices: A few sprigs of thyme, rosemary, or basil, or a pinch of garlic powder, onion powder, or paprika can help to add flavor to the green beans.
  • Don't overcook the green beans: Green beans should be cooked until they are tender but still have a slight crunch. Overcooked green beans will be mushy and bland.

Conclusion:

With a few simple tips and tricks, you can easily make canned green beans that don't taste like they came from a can. These recipes are a great way to use up leftover green beans, and they're also a healthy and delicious side dish for any meal.
