The surprise is that this is delicious! This comes from my friend, Shawna, and is ridiculously easy to make. It seems to get even better the second day.

Time 40m

Yield 1 casserole, 10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 (2 lb) package frozen frozen tater tots
1 lb ground turkey or 1 lb ground beef
2 (14 1/2 ounce) cans cut green beans
2 (10 3/4 ounce) cans condensed cream of mushroom soup
1/2-1 cup milk
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Brown ground turkey (or beef), season to taste (Johnny's Seasoning Salt is very good for this, but salt and pepper will do nicely), drain and set aside.
  • Heat oven to 425 degrees.
  • Line the bottom of an 11x13 rectangular baking dish with the frozen tater tots.
  • Layer the browned ground meat next, then the green beans.
  • In a bowl or large measuring cup mix the soup and enough milk that when mixed with the soup makes it easy to pour but not excessively runny.
  • Pour mixture on top of the green beans and spread around to coat the top of the casserole.
  • Top with the shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Bake for 30-45 minutes until casserole is bubbly and the cheese is melted and starting to brown.

GREEN BEAN SURPRISE

Green Bean Surprise image

One time at my parents' house, I decided to make up a dish out of random ingredients we had that were not already being used for something else. I was pleasantly surprised at the turnout and have made it several times since! A great dish for casserole lovers!

Time 1h10m

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 1/2 can(s) italian cut green beans (large can)
1 can(s) canned chicken pieces (large can)
1 can(s) cream of mushroom soup
1 can(s) cream of chicken
2 stalk(s) celery
1/4 medium green pepper
2 tsp italian seasoning (to taste)
2 tsp salt and pepper (to taste)
2/3 pkg shredded casserole cheese
1 can(s) chow main noodles
1 stick butter
1 slice onion

Steps:

  • 1. Chop celery, green pepper, and onion and put in medium to large mixing bowl. Melt butter in microwave and add to bowl.
  • 2. Add all other ingredients except cheese and noodles. Mix well.
  • 3. Spray or grease 9 X 13 dish or a little smaller if you don't have that size. Poor contents of mixing bowl into dish.
  • 4. Preheat oven to 350 F. Once oven is preheated, put dish in and bake for 20 minutes.
  • 5. Sprinkle cheese evenly over. Place back in oven and bake for another 20. At 10 minutes left, sprinkle noodles on top but do not cover cheese completely.
  • 6. Cool for 5 to 10 minutes. Serve.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh, crisp green beans. Look for beans that are a deep green color and snap when you bend them. Avoid beans that are limp or have brown spots.
  • Trim the green beans. Cut off the tough ends of the beans. You can also string the beans if desired, although this step is not necessary.
  • Cook the green beans properly. Green beans can be cooked in a variety of ways, including boiling, steaming, roasting, and sautéing. The best method will depend on your personal preferences and the other ingredients in your dish.
  • Season the green beans to taste. Green beans can be seasoned with a variety of herbs, spices, and sauces. Some popular options include salt, pepper, garlic, lemon juice, and olive oil.
  • Serve the green beans immediately. Green beans are best served fresh and hot. They can be served as a side dish, main course, or appetizer.

Conclusion:

Green beans are a versatile and delicious vegetable that can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. With their mild flavor and crisp texture, they are a great addition to any meal.
