Tips:

  • Mise en Place: Before starting, measure and prepare all ingredients. This will ensure smooth and efficient baking.
  • Fresh Ingredients: Use the freshest ingredients possible for the best flavor and texture.
  • Proper Measuring: Use accurate measuring cups and spoons to ensure the correct proportions of ingredients.
  • Room Temperature Ingredients: Bring butter, eggs, and milk to room temperature before mixing. This helps them blend together more easily.
  • Creaming Butter and Sugar: Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. This incorporates air into the mixture, resulting in a tender cake.
  • Gradually Add Dry Ingredients: Add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients gradually, mixing well after each addition. Overmixing can result in a tough cake.
  • Do Not Overmix: Mix the batter just until combined. Overmixing can develop the gluten in the flour, resulting in a dense cake.
  • Proper Baking Temperature: Preheat the oven to the correct temperature before baking. This ensures even cooking.
  • Check for Doneness: Insert a toothpick or skewer into the center of the cake. If it comes out clean, the cake is done.
  • Cool Completely: Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting or serving. This helps the cake set properly and prevents it from falling apart.
