SEVEN-LAYER VEGETARIAN GREEK DIP

Seven-Layer Vegetarian Greek Dip image

Grab a plate, scoop and then dip. Squeezing out the vegetables before you assemble this dip removes any extra moisture, so your layers stay in place. Make the day before and refrigerate to save time on game day.

SUNNY'S EASY 7-LAYER GYRO DIP

Sunny's Easy 7-Layer Gyro Dip image

One of my favorite things to order for delivery from a Greek restaurant is a gyro salad. It has all the things you want inside a gyro sandwich, but in salad form. It usually comes with two warm pitas on the side, so I love to make my own gyro from all the elements. This is a dip that gives me all those vibes and more. It's great with pita chips or as an easy way to serve gyros to a group without having several topping bowls. Just have warm pita on the side and a spoon to scoop the dip. Sometimes, I serve it this way with crisp, shredded lettuce in a bowl on the side.

Time 40m

Yield 6 to 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 tablespoon olive oil
1/4 cup finely grated white onion (on the smallest holes of the box grater)
1 large clove garlic, grated on a rasp
1 teaspoon chopped fresh oregano
1 pound ground lamb
1 teaspoon kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper

4 ounces feta, crumbled
4 plum tomatoes, seeded and diced small
1/2 English cucumber, seeded and diced small
8 ounces tzatziki dip (store-bought or homemade)

Pita chips, for serving

Steps:

  • For the lamb: In a large pan on medium heat, add the olive oil. When it begins to swirl, add the onion, garlic, oregano, lamb, salt and plenty of black pepper. Combine the ingredients, breaking up the lamb while cooking, until it is browned, about 10 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon to a paper towel-lined plate.
  • Layer the dip. In an 8-inch square dish, layer in this order: Spread the hummus on the bottom, then sprinkle evenly with the lamb, feta, tomatoes and cucumbers. Spread the tzatziki dip over the top and sprinkle with the dill to finish. Serve with the pita chips.

7-LAYER DIP - GREEK STYLE

7-Layer Dip - Greek Style image

This is like the classic Mexican 7-layer dip, only in a Mediterranean way! I sometimes make this and leave the meat out - it is still good and vegetarian thataway! Serve with fresh-baked pita chips. I estimated amounts, use more or less to your taste. Serving size is approximate too.

Categories     Greek

Time 40m

Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 cups hummus
1/2 lb ground lamb
1/2 cup finely chopped red onion
1/2 cup chopped seeded cucumber
1/2 cup chopped seeded tomatoes
1 cup tzatziki (Greek yogurt dip)
1/4 cup chopped kalamata olive
1/4 teaspoon of fresh mint, finely chopped

Steps:

  • Spread hummus on platter. I usually use a pretty garlicky kind, stir in some olive oil and lemon zest, a little cayenne.
  • Brown lamb - can use beef or turkey- in skillet with garlic and some oregano and marjoram. Drain well. I usually brown my meet, drain and rinse it with boiling water and then add some spices. Layer meat on top of hummus.
  • Layer onion, cucumbers, tomatoes and tzaziki (greek yogurt dip). The amounts I gave are approximate, use more or less to your preference.
  • Scatter olives and mint over top. Serve with fresh-baked pita chips and watch it dissappear!

Tips:

  • Choose fresh, high-quality ingredients: Using fresh vegetables, herbs, and spices will greatly enhance the flavor of your dip.
  • Don't overcook the vegetables: Overcooked vegetables will lose their flavor and texture, so cook them until they are just tender.
  • Layer the dip carefully: To ensure that each layer is distinct, spread it evenly and smoothly before adding the next layer.
  • Chill the dip before serving: This will allow the flavors to meld together and the dip to firm up.
  • Serve the dip with a variety of dippers: This will allow your guests to choose their favorite way to enjoy the dip.

Conclusion:

This Greek 7-layer dip is a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer that is perfect for any occasion. With its vibrant flavors and colorful layers, it is sure to be a hit at your next party or gathering. So next time you are looking for a crowd-pleasing dip, give this Greek 7-layer dip a try. You won't be disappointed!
