GRANDMA'S GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE

Grandma's German Chocolate Cake image

This is my grandma's recipe for German Chocolate Cake. This was all of us kid's favorite for birthdays. I made this for my husband on our first date on his birthday, and it's a tradition in our family now. We always use black walnuts, but you can use English walnuts. The hot water sounds weird, but that's the way my family has made it for years.

  • 6. let cool , can make a 2 layer cake or use a 9X13 pan ..and use icing of your choice. I like it best with cream cheese icing.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients: The better the ingredients, the better the cake will taste. This is especially important for the chocolate, which should be a good quality semisweet or bittersweet chocolate.
  • Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy: This will help to incorporate air into the batter, which will make the cake light and airy.
  • Gradually add the eggs: Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. This will help to prevent the batter from curdling.
  • Do not overmix the batter: Overmixing can make the cake tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the cake in a preheated oven: This will help to ensure that the cake bakes evenly.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting: This will help to prevent the frosting from melting.
