Tips:

  • When choosing bread, opt for a firm, slightly stale bread like French bread, Italian bread, or sourdough. This will prevent the bread from becoming too mushy in the pudding.
  • Use a variety of spices to add flavor to the bread pudding. Common choices include cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract. You can also add other spices like ginger, cardamom, or mace to taste.
  • If you want a richer bread pudding, use heavy cream or half-and-half instead of milk. You can also add a tablespoon of butter or margarine to the custard mixture.
  • Soak the bread cubes in the custard mixture for at least 30 minutes before baking. This will allow the bread to absorb the flavor of the custard and will help to prevent the pudding from being dry.
  • Bake the bread pudding in a water bath. This will help to prevent the pudding from drying out and will also create a more custard-like texture.
  • Serve the bread pudding warm or cold. You can top it with whipped cream, ice cream, or fresh fruit.
