FRENCH TOAST

French Toast image

You can use white sandwich bread, but French toast also works well with other loaves, including brioche, challah, cinnamon-raisin, whole-wheat, French, even sourdough.

Provided by Jessica Furniss

Time 20m

Yield 6 slices

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 large eggs
⅔ cup whole milk (or high-fat milk alternative)
1 teaspoon sugar
Dash of salt
½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Dash of cinnamon (optional)
6 slices white bread (or bread of choice)
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
Toppings, such as fruit, syrup, butter, or powdered sugar (optional)

Steps:

  • Whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, and salt (as well as the optional vanilla extract and cinnamon, if using) in a medium shallow bowl until the mixture is fluffy and light in color.
  • Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Working with one bread slice at a time, soak the bread in the egg mixture for 3 to 4 seconds per side. Don't let the slices sit too long; they will turn soggy and fall apart.
  • Once butter is melted and bubbling, add 3 soaked bread slices to hot pan and cook until golden brown, or about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. (There may be some spots that do not brown; that's normal.)
  • Flip each slice, and cook until gold brown, or about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. Repeat with remaining butter and egg-soaked bread. Serve hot with toppings of choice.

GRANDMA B'S FRENCH TOAST CASSEROLE

Grandma B's French Toast Casserole image

This recipe is a family favorite. Grandma B made this every year on Christmas morning and it is now a tradition in my house. I make the casserole the night before and let it sit in the fridge over night. In the morning I pop it in the oven and cook up the bacon or sausage while it cooks. Super easy and super delish. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

GRANDMA'S FRENCH TOAST

Grandma's French Toast image

This is how my family makes French toast. This was from my Grandma; she learned it from the place she worked at. You can use regular white bread or cut French bread on the diagonal about 1/2 inch thick. The day old bread at WalMart works great. I am going to bow to the pressure of adding milk to this. My family likes it without but if your family likes it with you can certainly add it.

Time 20m

Yield 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

4 eggs
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons milk (optional)
Pam cooking spray, butter flavored
8 slices bread

Steps:

  • Mix eggs, nutmeg, vanilla, sugar, salt, and milk if using, together.
  • Spray Pam, or butter, a skillet.
  • Dip bread into egg mixture quickly to coat so it does not absorb too much egg.
  • Put on skillet and cook until lightly brown; flip.
  • Brown on other side.

Tips:

  • Use fresh, high-quality ingredients for the best flavor.
  • If your bread is too fresh, it may be difficult to coat evenly with the egg mixture. To solve this, you can dry the bread slices in a low oven for a few minutes before dipping them in the egg.
  • For a richer flavor, use a mixture of milk and cream instead of just milk.
  • If you like your French toast crispy, cook it over medium-high heat. For softer French toast, cook it over medium-low heat.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan when cooking the French toast. This will prevent it from cooking evenly.
  • Serve the French toast immediately with your favorite toppings, such as butter, syrup, fruit, or whipped cream.

Conclusion:

Grandma's Easy French Toast is a delicious and easy-to-make breakfast recipe that is perfect for any occasion. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a hearty and satisfying meal that the whole family will love. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy breakfast or brunch idea, give Grandma's Easy French Toast a try!
