Tips:

  • Choose the right potatoes: Waxy potatoes, such as Yukon Gold or red potatoes, hold their shape well and are less likely to fall apart when boiled.
  • Cook the potatoes properly: Boil the potatoes in salted water until they are tender but still firm. Do not overcook them, or they will become mushy.
  • Cool the potatoes completely: Before smashing the potatoes, let them cool completely. This will help to prevent them from sticking to the bowl.
  • Use a potato masher or fork to smash the potatoes: Do not use a blender or food processor, as this will make the potatoes too smooth.
  • Add the dressing gradually: Start with a small amount of dressing and add more to taste. This will help to prevent the potato salad from becoming too runny.
  • Chill the potato salad before serving: This will help to enhance the flavors of the salad and make it more refreshing.
  • Garnish the potato salad with fresh herbs or vegetables: This will add a pop of color and flavor to the dish.
