Steps:
- Preheat a grill. Place the cabbage wedges on a baking sheet, and drizzle with the vegetable oil on both sides. Sprinkle with sugar, salt, and pepper, and then toss to coat. Grill the cabbage for 4 minutes each side, or 8 minutes total, turning once or until the edges begin to wilt, but the bulk of the cabbage remains crunchy. Remove the cabbage from the grill and allow to cool a few minutes. Meanwhile, make the vinaigrette in a medium bowl by whisking the orange zest, Dijon mustard, and orange juice with the olive oil until it emulsifies. Add salt, and pepper, to taste. Chop the grilled cabbage, removing the core, and place in the bowl with the dressing. Add the parsley and green onion and toss to coat.

We made our cool, crunchy slaw with just the right amount of tang from sour cream and vinegar. A bit of honey balances the acidity. This classic summer side dish would be welcome at any picnic or backyard BBQ.

Steps:
- Working with half of the bag at a time, chop the coleslaw mix into 1/8-inch pieces (about the width of the carrots). Transfer to a large bowl. Dice enough of the onion into 1/8-inch pieces to yield 1/4 cup. Transfer to a fine-mesh strainer and rinse with cold water for 1 minute to soften the flavor. Gently wring out the onions in a paper towel and then stir into the coleslaw mix.
- In a pint jar or other container with a tight-fitting lid, stir together the sugar and 3 tablespoons water until the sugar dissolves a bit. Add the mayonnaise, vinegar, mustard powder, paprika and 1/2 teaspoon salt, put on the lid and shake vigorously until completely combined. Stir the dressing into the coleslaw, then set aside for 10 minutes to marinate and soften, stirring a few times. Add more salt, if needed. The coleslaw will keep, covered in the refrigerator, for up to 1 day.

Steps:
- 1. Put the cabbage, onion and pepper in a big bowl and sprinkle with the salt and mix together well. Let stand for 1 hour and it will "shrink" down to about 3/4ths to 1/2 of original size. This step is what keeps it crunchy.
- 2. Next stir together in a sauce pan on med. heat on the stove the vinegar, water, sugar, celery seed and mustard seed. Turn on your over head fan to get rid of the vinegar fumes (pretty potent). Bring to a boil and let boil for 3 minutes. Let cool and when the hour is up on the cabbage pour over and mix together well. Let stand for 1/2 hour to meld the flavors.
- 3. Left overs can be put away in the freezer and then thawed out and will still be yummy and crunchy!
Tips:
- Use fresh, crispy cabbage. This will give your coleslaw the best flavor and texture.
- Shred the cabbage finely. This will help the dressing to coat the cabbage evenly.
- Use a variety of vegetables. This will add color, flavor, and texture to your coleslaw.
- Don't overdress the coleslaw. You want the dressing to coat the cabbage, but you don't want it to be soggy.
- Let the coleslaw chill for at least 30 minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld and the cabbage to soften slightly.
Conclusion:
Grandma Ogie's crunchy coleslaw is a delicious and refreshing side dish that is perfect for any occasion. With its simple ingredients and easy-to-follow instructions, this recipe is sure to become a family favorite. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy side dish, give Grandma Ogie's crunchy coleslaw a try. You won't be disappointed!
