GRANDMA'S APPLE CAKE

Time 50m

Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1/4 cup margarine or 1/4 cup butter
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups thinly sliced apples
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Steps:

  • Cream together first 3 ingredients.
  • Combine next 4 ingredients and add to creamed mixture.
  • Mix until blended and add apples and cinnamon.
  • Put into greased 8" pan.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes.

Tips:

  • Use the right apples: Granny Smith apples are the best choice for this cake because they hold their shape well and have a tart flavor that balances out the sweetness of the cake.
  • Peel and core the apples: This will help the apples cook evenly and prevent the cake from becoming too mushy.
  • Use fresh lemon juice: Fresh lemon juice will help to brighten the flavor of the cake and prevent the apples from browning.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing the batter will make the cake tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the cake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean: This will ensure that the cake is cooked through.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting: This will help the frosting to set properly.

Conclusion:

Grandma Florence's Applesauce Cake is a delicious and easy-to-make cake that is perfect for any occasion. The cake is moist and flavorful, with a tender crumb and a sweet and tangy applesauce filling. The cream cheese frosting is the perfect finishing touch, adding a rich and creamy flavor to the cake. This cake is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
