Tips:

  • Use a variety of apples: This will give your apple crisp a more complex flavor and texture. Some good choices include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn apples.
  • Peel and slice the apples thinly: This will help them to cook evenly and caramelize nicely.
  • Don't overcrowd the baking dish: The apples need room to breathe so that they can caramelize properly.
  • Use a combination of brown sugar and granulated sugar: This will give your apple crisp a rich, golden-brown color and a delicious flavor.
  • Add a pinch of salt: This will help to balance out the sweetness of the apples and the sugar.
  • Use a combination of butter and flour: This will create a crisp, golden-brown topping.
  • Bake the apple crisp until the topping is golden-brown and the apples are bubbling: This usually takes about 30-35 minutes.
  • Let the apple crisp cool for at least 15 minutes before serving: This will allow the filling to set and the flavors to meld.
