GRAHAM CRACKER COOKIE BARS

Graham Cracker Cookie Bars image

I got this recipe off of the back of a graham cracker box, and I could not believe how yummy they were! I have not made them with plain graham crackers, so I just used my own best judgement in estimating the additions of granulated sugar and cinnamon to compensate.

MAGIC BARS

Magic Bars image

These sweet little treats are so easy to make and take just 15 minutes to put together. The graham cracker crumbs and sweetened condensed milk magically come together to make an ooey-gooey bottom layer.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Categories     dessert

Time 1h55m

Yield 48 bars

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 stick (8 tablespoons) unsalted butter, melted, plus more for buttering the dish
2 cups graham cracker crumbs
One 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup butterscotch or peanut butter chips
1 cup pecan pieces, roughly chopped
1 cup shredded, sweetened coconut

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
  • Combine the melted butter and graham cracker crumbs in a small bowl with your hands (the mixture should hold together when squeezed). Pour the mixture into the prepared dish and press it into the bottom in an even layer, using the bottom of a measuring cup to help. Pour the sweetened condensed milk over the crumbs, then sprinkle the chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, pecans and coconut over the milk.
  • Bake until the sides are golden brown and begin to pull away from the dish, 30 to 40 minutes. Let cool completely in the dish. Cut into 48 small pieces (they are rich). The cookies can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Tips:

  • Use a food processor to quickly and easily grind the graham crackers into fine crumbs.
  • If you don't have a food processor, you can crush the graham crackers in a resealable plastic bag using a rolling pin.
  • Be sure to pack the graham cracker crumbs firmly into the pan so that the crust is nice and compact.
  • Don't overbake the cookie bars, or they will become dry and crumbly. The edges should be golden brown and the center should be just set.
  • Let the cookie bars cool completely before cutting and serving. This will help them to hold their shape.
  • For a richer flavor, use melted butter instead of vegetable oil in the crust.
  • Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the cookie dough for a classic flavor.
  • Sprinkle some chopped nuts or chocolate chips on top of the cookie bars before baking for a delicious variation.

Conclusion:

These graham cracker cookie bars are a delicious and easy treat that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are perfect for potlucks, picnics, and bake sales. With their simple ingredients and quick preparation time, these cookie bars are sure to become a favorite in your home. So, preheat your oven and get ready to bake up a batch of these irresistible treats today!
