Time 30m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 ½ cups panko bread crumbs, divided
1 pound lean ground beef
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
4 cloves garlic, minced, divided
2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
3 medium onions, chopped
1 tablespoon butter
1 (8 ounce) package baby bella mushrooms, chopped
salt and ground black pepper to taste
1 splash red wine, such as Cabernet Sauvignon
4 slices mozzarella cheese
8 slices rye bread

Steps:

  • Place 1/2 cup bread crumbs on a plate. Combine remaining bread crumbs with ground beef, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, and 1/2 of the garlic in a large bowl. Mix well and form into 4 large balls. Place each ball in the bread crumbs and press to flatten and coat burgers on each side.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions and remaining garlic and cook until browned, 5 to 7 minutes. Reduce heat to low, add butter and mushrooms, and season with salt and pepper. Add red wine and cook for 5 minutes more.
  • Meanwhile, heat remaining oil in another skillet over medium-low heat. Add burgers, cover, and cook until bread crumbs on the bottom have turned a nice brown color, 5 to 7 minutes. Flip, add a slice of mozzarella cheese to each burger, cover, and cook until no longer pink in the center, 5 to 7 minutes more. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 160 degrees F (70 degrees C).
  • Place each burger on a slice of rye bread, cover with mushroom-onion mixture, and top with remaining bread.

WORLD'S GREATEST MUSHROOM-ONION BURGERS

World's Greatest Mushroom-Onion Burgers image

I love a great burger... in fact even if I were mega-rich and could eat the priciest food available, burgers would still be gracing my meals more often than anything else I can think of! I've heard of $24 dollar gourmet burgers and such... but you can make this for a whole lot less money and still be in burger heaven... Another fabulous comfort food fix from "Great Food From Mom's Diner".

Time 50m

Yield 5 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

4 tablespoons butter or 4 tablespoons margarine
1 large onion, chopped
6 ounces mushrooms, chopped
1 1/2 lbs ground sirloin
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
1 tablespoon A.1. Original Sauce
flour (for dredging)
2 tablespoons olive oil (preferably extra-virgin)
5 large kaiser rolls, lightly toasted
cheese, of your choice (optional)
sour cream (optional)

Steps:

  • In a large, heavy skillet, melt butter or margarine.
  • Cook onions over medium-low heat until golden brown.
  • Add the mushrooms and continue cooking until mushrooms are tender.
  • Let sit until cool enough to handle.
  • In a large bowl, mix the sirloin, salt, pepper, steak sauce, and onion-mushroom mixture.
  • Form into 5 burgers.
  • In same skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  • Dredge burgers in flour and cook until desired doneness, turning once.
  • Add cheese (if desired) and melt atop burger.
  • Top with a dollop of sour cream.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients: The better the ingredients, the better the burgers will be. Look for fresh, grass-fed beef, thick-cut bacon, and flavorful mushrooms and onions.
  • Season the beef patties generously: Don't be afraid to use a variety of spices and herbs to flavor the beef patties. Some good options include garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cumin, and chili powder.
  • Cook the beef patties over medium heat: This will help to prevent them from drying out. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: When cooking the bacon, onions, and mushrooms, don't overcrowd the pan. This will cause them to steam instead of brown.
  • Use a good bun: The bun is an important part of any burger. Look for a bun that is soft and fluffy, and that can hold up to the weight of the burger.
  • Add your favorite toppings: Once the burgers are cooked, add your favorite toppings. Some good options include cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and ketchup.

Conclusion:

These gourmet bacon, onion, and mushroom burgers are sure to be a hit at your next cookout. They're juicy, flavorful, and packed with umami. So fire up the grill and get cooking!
